I've seen some fear-mongering regarding #nokings this weekend. Obviously be peaceful. But even more, be JOYFUL. They're trying to paint this as terroristic hate. So we give them joy, and dance, and singing, and frogs. Be cautious, sure. But they want us afraid. Don't give them the satisfaction.

The dating is later and it appears to be a family tomb with several bodies of both genders. Hephaistion was cremated in Babylon; he didn’t have a body to bury. The name "Hephaistion" does appear in the tomb--but it’s the artisan's signature. Not the occupant. 2/5 #classicsbluesky #ancientbluesky

My haul for independent bookstore day. I wound up getting a couple classics I didn’t have because they were sold out of what I went to buy. She said there was a line waiting that morning when she opened and the store hadn’t been empty all day!!!

Macedon & its Influences
Narratives of Politics and War in Honor of Edward M. Anson

The papers explore themes especially prominent in Anson’s extensive bibliography: warfare & political action in Macedonian history, especially during the reigns of Philip II and Alexander the Great. #classicsbluesky

#Classicsbluesky hivemind: first, can someone give me the museum/name of this pot. Second, the image is usually identified as a Thesmophoria celebrant making a piglet sacrifice. But that REALLY doesn't look like a piglet. See the tail, long face, paws? Why is this IDed as a pig, not another animal?

At the risk of beating a dead horse....

5 years ago, I Did a Thing. This duology on a young Alexander the Great. It's a coming-of-age story but part of coming of age is falling in love, so it's also a love story.

Bestest cat ever. The Mighty Licorice, 2005-2025. Smart, fearless, ever-cool, a long, tall 16 lb cat until recently. My son, at 7, picked him out when he was 4 months--"I want the little black one, Mama!"--an early birthday present. He's been with us ever since: 19.5 = 94 human years. #catsofbluesky

Link to full study below. A reminder that being Christian does not equal being a Christian Nationalist. In fact, many Christians would say one CAN'T be a Christian and a "Christian" Nationalist. It's a conflict in values, and Christian Nationalists are heretics.

Need a present for the history fan on your list? Consider this duology on #Alexanderthegreat, penned by a specialist. Goodreads ratings 4+ stars, so this scholar can spin a tale too. 😉 If purchasing ebooks, skip Amazon: support small businesses tinyurl.com/bdhsw45y

Book series on the young Alexander before he became "the Great." (Written by a Macedonian specialist.) Has decently high ratings on both Goodreads and Amazon.

May I introduce you to my Chief Research Assistant, Cecilia Iphigeneia, She Who Avoided Road Sacrifice. (Of course there's a story.) She'd be completely content if I parked myself 24/7 in my upstairs office. Here, Mama is her exclusive property. She waits downstairs for me to open the door to go up.

With several new followers: I have one foot in Classics/ancient history and another in the writing community. I teach Greek history at the Univ. of Nebraska-Omaha, answer "asks" on Tumblr as public history, and write history-inspired SFF and historical fiction. Not a prolific poster here, alas.

The Mighty Licorice, for Black Cat Day. At 19+ (now 93 human years), he is the longest-lived cat who's ever owned me. And still going strong. Best luck ever.

Tablet 45.28, Mesopotamian Šumma alu:
"If a black cat is seen in a man’s house, that land will experience good fortune."
