Eight years ago, I wrote a news story for @theipaper.com about the last French soldier to die in the First World War, which I'm reminded of again this Armistice Day.

So maybe sit this one out, you rancid herring.

I know there are more important things to worry about, but I could really do without being bombarded by Black Friday press releases. Give it a rest.

Yes. Bizarre that the mistakenly released prisoners are being treated by the media as the result of Labour policy, when everyone knows perfectly well that a year ago the prison system was in deep, deep crisis because of Tory budget cuts.
“Austerity” = the missing word in all the panic over failing prisons

This a thousand times.
This is yet another example of how you beat the far right. By beating them, not trying to be them. By having your own agenda, not aping theirs. With courage and conviction - and humour - not fear and timidity.

Some good news for a change.
Huge wins for the Democrats in state elections across the US last night.

Chaotic authoritarianism is not popular.
A 15-point win for VA gov. A 5-point win for VA AG in a race he was expected to lose. A 13-point win for NJ gov, in a race that was expected to be close. An outright majority in NYC in a three-way race. A 30-point win for Prop 50 in CA. #BlueWave #Election2025

The sheer grifting determination of these ghouls knows no bounds. Even as we hear the man charged is a British national who lives in Peterborough with police suggesting no obvious terror link, they cling desperately to the idea this is somehow linked to immigration. Shameless stuff.

Absolutely.
Given the party's refusal to act on Pochin's brazen racism, it should be as socially unacceptable to vote for Reform as it was in the early 2000s to vote for the BNP.

And we should be prepared to say this to people's faces.

This is outrageous. How can an airline treat a passenger so appallingly? Definitely not in a rush to fly with Turkish Airlines. Disgraceful behaviour. Full story on the Facebook post below, and thanks @rorycj.bsky.social for bringing it to our attention. @simoncalder.bsky.social

My friend Mark Mardell was chucked off his Turkish Airlines flight at the weekend because he had Parkinson’s and his son had asked for assistance for him. (He’s written about it as a public post on Facebook but the link is proving hard to share outside,)

A good thread but this is a particularly important point.
Even with all the favourable exposure they get, Reform *still* aren't very popular. They're nowhere near the majority.
The BBC/Sky need to give the rest of us more of a voice.
Broadcasters - especially the BBC - have been working hard to ensure they give a voice to the 25-35% of people willing to vote Reform (and harder groups within that, like anti-asylum protest and Tommy protest)

Need to pay as much attention to the unheard majority who fear that form of politics
