They started their private label in response to producers increasing prices as their costs were going down. Wild.
Weird that we can take this for granted but like these same producers upping prices during a pandemic and cover of expected inflation is conspiracy

What a fun post!
In a class group project we were working on bike lane use/safety and a fellow said “you know how they make you learn how to drive a car in HS” and a bomb went off in my head.
I think we should have bicycle riding lessons for street and path safety, repairs etc at aged twelve
“Chicago is where I was born and raised. And honestly, biking just makes me feel at peace. I'm usually not the most calm person - when I'm biking though, my mind is centered. I can pay attention to my surroundings. It's kind of like a meditation for me.” 🧵

This is going to be a must read
I feel silly publicizing a book in these times BUT my book describes how constitutional structures allowed the accumulation of generational wealth + rights for settlers and white people. These are the same advantages MAGA is trying to preserve today. Pre-order page:

Down relative to march of this year but still high relative to June of last year! They’re so pathetic

(I don’t care about egg prices then or now because it a relatively low cost item, it’s just funny that so much political weight was hung on this shit)

NEW: Dems easily flipped the sheriff's office in Pennsylvania's Bucks County, a big swing county in the Philly suburbs.

So? The incumbent GOP sheriff had contracted with ICE. His Dem challenger promised to end the contract.

Now he wants other swing-state Dems to look at his victory as a lesson:
Voters Ousted This Pennsylvania Sheriff After He Signed Up to Collaborate With ICE - Bolts
A populous, swing county replaced its GOP sheriff on Tuesday after months of controversy over his joining ICE’s 287(g) program. The Democratic winner promises he’ll end the contract.

Wow. This analogy for how no one ever seems to hold Trump accountable for his constant lying. Perfectly stated.

Makes me think of how Mamdani promised to keep police commissioner he previously said he would get rid of, after meeting city elites. They were almost certainly nor his donors or voters, not in his coalition at all and got him to move on a major staffing decision before he got elected. $$=problems
Ro Khanna, who has called for Chuck Schumer to be replaced, says the only reason other Democrats aren't calling for it is because it would "offend a lot of donors."

"Are we gonna be beholden to the donors that have gotten us two terms of Donald Trump, or are we gonna listen to people?"

I felt that they were doing this to protect the filibuster more than anything else.
Which makes one wonder for who’s benefit. It’s been shown that when Rs wield it they can get concessions and Dems can’t. So for who’s benefit would you save the filibuster

This is how to write a headline about repeated liars.

Every disaffected Dem & swing focus group we do begins with people asking what's real. They hear, at times, this is authoritarian takeover threatening lives & livelihoods. But perceive most "leaders" not acting as if this were so.

To this point: I was thinking bout how Bovino is committing crimes on camera and would be aeasy for the next justice dept to put away but if a candidate wants to “move on” without justice this is not going to go well. I’m seeing certain hopefuls who can’t even support the Dem mayor of nyc, so
Nuremburg trials is the moderate position
He said that the agents would throw food at them to eat. The agents threatened to withhold food for a week and to beat him up if he didn't sign deportation papers. He said he saw others refuse and get beaten/receive no food. He signed because he was afraid.

Trump's tariffs are hurting us in two ways:

First, the obvious: Higher costs → either lower profits or higher prices.

Second, more subtle (perhaps bigger): We’ve signaled we’re an unreliable partner, so allies are reorganizing supply chains to avoid us. That's hard to unwind.

Such a great film
We just saw 'The Fall' (2006) on Mubi. Ravishing. Worth getting Mubi just for this.

Ultrasurrealism, from a child's POV, literally dreamlike as in uncontrollable, exhilarating, annihilating, overwhelming, the scale of it makes Cecil B. DeMille look like a shoebox diorama

This also makes me think of the Pinto and what a scandal that was and Tesla self driving has already killed more ppl and it barely registers. I think it speaks to corporate power keeping outrage in check. Probably social media noise as well
Six people died from tampered Tylenol and the company pulled 30 million bottles off the market. ChatGPT is accused of urging seven people towards suicide, and OpenAI just assures us they’re still working out the kinks. Billions in investment, zero accountability.
