With mere hours left to go in Hispanic Heritage Month, we put the finishing touches on our storymap we created with our partners @greenlatinos.org that celebrates the contributions Latinos have made to Environmental Justice. It is but a portion of the story but I really hope you'll engage with it.

If there are so many folks here (BSky) who get this, and people on BSky are representative of "THE GROUPS" who have too much influence, then will someone please explain to me why the Democrats leadership doesn't seem to understand these concepts AT ALL? Its almost like "THE GROUPS" critique is BS.
I wrote about what I see as the real lesson of Mamdani's victory: not that Democrats needs to move left (or right, for that matter), but that they should try to build real-world relationships with normal voters. publiccomment.blog/p/mamdani-th...

is this the new Tides Go In etc? Why as a country do we value education and intelligence so lowly? Its so depressing that this is who has led our country...twice. Even beyond the racism and corruption, HE'S JUST SO FUCKING DUMB!

A populous, swing county replaced its GOP sheriff on Tuesday after months of controversy over his joining ICE’s 287(g) program. The Democratic winner promises he’ll end the contract.

The majority of Americans blame the GOP for the shutdown and higher costs...
8 Dem Centrists (and you better believe Schumer knows what's up): Nah, We'll cave.
I guarantee you calls came from donors.

This is so frustrating because although I rarely agree with it, I can usually see the logic in the decisions Democrats make that I am against. Its hard to find any logic in this move. This is quite clearly the best example of snatching political defeat from the jaws of victory I have ever seen.

My family has been without half our income for 40 days. It has been.. very hard.
We are willing to feel that pain so people can have health care next year, or to undo these illegal recissions.
We are not willing to have been put through this for NOTHING.

i think this is key. taking the deal would amount to taking the blame. it would turn a clear political victory into an unambiguous defeat.
If the Dems blink after all of this, for a deal that all but ensures no ACA subsidies in 2026 anyway, then what was the purpose of letting the shutdown go for 40 days in the first place?

Democrats have to stop bailing out Republicans from facing the consequences of their own policies. And yeah, that means they have to stop sparing voters from experiencing what GOP government truly means.
Every time Dems step in, it only emboldens the GOP & they make it even worse the next time.
Every time Dems step in, it only emboldens the GOP & they make it even worse the next time.
So Democrats get:
1. A CR that will prevent the GOP from facing the wrath of Americans for a shutdown over the holidays
2. A coupon for one (1) meaningless ACA vote that will fail
3. An end to the illegal RIF/SNAP moves that are already before the courts
Those all seem like wins for the GOP.

I too have issues with phone calls, even voicemails, and I might have flubbed a word or two reading from my pre-written script, yet I have lived to tell the tale. If you are able and feeling feisty enough to overcome any barriers you have, this is a good phone call to make.
So, listen, call Schumer’s office no matter where you live, no matter if you’re registered to vote. Leave a voicemail that says if Senate Dems cave without an ACA premiums fix, you will never vote for or donate to another Senate Democrat as long as he is Leader

In November of 2025 we aren't easily shocked but this cave is quite shocking and that will make it all that more painful and thus discouraging. This has potential to be the single most damaging action by Dems in this election cycle. To pour cold water on your own voters after a huge win. Just wow.

I truly don’t know how you look at the past week and THEN decide THIS is an appropriate — let alone the right — response.
Dems backed Trump into a corner where he’s advocating for starving Americans and hemorrhaging support. If they vote to let him off the hook in exchange for nothing it’s a cataclysmic failure. I know people are in pain but insulating Republicans from political consequences is not the answer.

There are too many Democrats in Congress that have no will to fight and we are all worse off becuase of their presence. I thought this week had potential to be a turning point and instead a few woefully inadequate cohort of Senators will make it harder for the entirely of the country once again.
