As of 2019, LA 3 - Higgin's district - had 15% of its residents on SNAP - much higher than the national rate. He just called these people crackheads.

Put an offrenda for Dia de Los Muertos in my office and told my coworkers they could bring photos to celebrate their loved ones and they came through! (And decorated!) Just another reason why I love working with them. I wonder what our ancestors are saying to each other. I know they are all proud.

Latest forecast discussion for Melissa. Storms of this magnitude used to be rare. Now it is a much more frequent observance. 906 is the 11th strongest Atlantic hurricane by pressure. This is going to be devastating. www.nhc.noaa.gov/text/refresh...

In some ways, bird photography is really challenging but in others its incredibly simple: almost always shooting wide open and at a long focal length. There was a lot of relearning and making sure I was using the right settings and to think about framing shots at a wildly different focal lengths.

Since the pandemic and since moving out east I've become a lot more of a bird photographer than a landscape/storm/astro photographer and this trip has been good to remember some of my old tricks. I especially had fun with a sunset in Zion NP a couple of days ago.

no comet here, but one last image from last night. This one of the cygnus region of the milky way. The skies out here are as dark as I've ever visited. Perhaps Big Bend has the edge but its close. As much as I love the east coast, you simply can't find skies like this out there.

But Lemmon wasn't the only comet in the sky last night. This shot of the Milky Way shows a green dot in near the center of the image. That was Comet SWAN! 5 minute exposure at 35mm as well. As an aside, the airglow (diffuse green at the bottom) out here was impressive!

Leaving Great Basin NP today but not bedore doing some astrophotography last night. First, 3 minute exposure of comet Lemmon at 35mm. I am hoping to try at longer focal length tonight from capital reef NP.

Well was sad that Great Basin National Park had no visitor center open due to the shutdown but it was still nice to explore it today.

Seeing this on the profile page of an account that just followed me was probably the quickest block I've ever made.

I feel as though half my feed could be panelist for this event and the other half are the ones I feel will benefit from attending. Either way, if you're reading this, RSVP!

Another shot from Cape May a couple of weeks ago: An American oystercatcher spreading its wings shortly before taking off. One of the coolest shorebirds we get on the east coast. #birds #birdphotography

The article completely ignores how much voters blame O&G in their own polling! I'm sorry but if you can't take this environment and message around this issue well then why are you a candidate for office?

I fully reject that this is complicated. Trump has carried out enery policy that has directly led to rate increases and Democrats absolutely should focus on that. We also have polling and message testing that shows voters are reaponsive to this!

I don't know that I'll ever have a closer look at a piping plover. Most of my views of them have been through a scope at distances of over 100 meters. Thankful for the little bit of time Petunia graced us with his presence. Top tier bird!

At Cape May this past weekend I had an amazingly cooperative piping plover named Petunia come closer and closer to me and a friend as we lay prone in the sand. Piping plovers are endangered and many are captured and tagged (the tags are on the legs) so they can be tracked. #birds #birdphotography

Here's an excellent example of this:
Such little movement leading up to the election. The IRA and other laws weren't properly sold to voters.

About to land back in the DC metro and did some photo editing on the flight. Probably my favorite shot and encounter of the trip as this juvenile zone tailed hawk soared close by. #bird #birdphotography

Spent yesterday in the mountains with birds while I'm in NM. This is such a great birding state and I regret not being a birder while I lived here. Here's a shot from the day before of a juvi rufous hummingbird. #birding #bird #birdphotography

Was at Mo Amer's early show last night and it was so joyful and moving even set against the insane tragic world we live in. The crowd was amazing. Community really is the way through in these times.
