Mom of a relapsed pediatric leukemia patient here and can confirm 😞
Having cancer during Covid has been eye opening, no one thinks they ought to wear a mask around me ever.
People really give two shits about other people.

Lots going on but don’t lose track of the Trump attacks on biomedical research and cancer cures.

@jeremymberg.bsky.social posted a leaked #NIH memo today. I want to highlight a few scary parts.

They’re about taking power from scientists and experts and giving it to the president’s hacks. 1/ 🧪

You can’t “personal choice” your way out of being disabled or chronically ill. This is a way to punish disabled people because we are less than, less deserving, less human. They want disabled people to die by making our care (even more) unaffordable, because we don’t deserve to live.
He’s comparing healthcare to home insurance.

Saying the “healthy” should be rewarded.

It’s eugenics.

Disability can happen to anyone.

You know how a hurricane can destroy your home no matter how many “safeguards” you had?

That’s chronic illness.

It’s the hurricane. $2k won’t cut it.

Weaponization of the premier public health agency in the country for personal clout and gain. The CDC website should not be trusted given the fact that it is controlled by people who will profit from spurious and false attempts to link vaccines to autism.

The fucking irony of someone with “fix your hearts or die” in their bio making fun of the loss of a disabled elder to an infection after years of pleading for people to help keep her safe.

You know your hero David Lynch died alone because nobody cared to protect him from COVID, either?

Alice Wong taught us that disabled people don’t just leave memories behind—they leave infrastructure. Lineages of care. Methods of collectivity, survival. She named the connective tissue that holds our communities together, even across death, even across the losses that come too fast and too often.

I got to “honored to be your ancestor” and started sobbing. I don’t even know what to say. It’s cliche to say that someone was a light, but Alice was, in both the sense of being a warm glow to find your way home and bright sun to burn the fuck out of the unwary. I hope we can honor her legacy.

So many vulnerable people were hurt, harassed and raped by these ghouls and now—I’m worried—it’s gonna become hehe haha lurid internet circus instead of a long overdue moral reckoning. I’m scared of who we all are becoming. That man has brought us ALL low.

This is another semi-regular reminder that hot people mask (I mean, look at @malyndae.bsky.social 😍) because masking is love and resistance and anti-fascist. Masking is community care, and community care is radical in this age. Be hot. Wear a mask.

Anyway a great way to radicalize people is for them to realize that you just abandoned their chance at being able to access and afford health care because you didn’t like waiting in line at the airport.

“Don’t expect the world to take care of you” what fascists and capitalists want you to think. If you don’t believe you owe care to others in your community, you don’t have a community, and that’s where fascism and overconsumption thrive by filling the void. Community care is radical and subversive
