Thank you to @mallorycarra.com‬ for covering the rise of independent journalism, and including Bolts in the article.
Love the shoutout to @boltsmag.org today in The Guardian’s article on independent journalism: www.theguardian.com/us-news/2026...

A benefit of having a gazillion little indie news outlets is that we're much more difficult for the administration to suppress. Titans can be felled. A swarm has no weakpoint to target.

Thanks to @mallorycarra.com for telling the story of independent journalism as a tool of resistance in the US.

What a treat to appear alongside @marisakabas.bsky.social, @evanurquhart.bsky.social, and our friends at @404media.co who have answered approximately 1,000 questions for us.

Shoutout to @tinynewscollective.bsky.social for its essential support, without which we would not have liability insurance!

thank you for all the support; the statement from our union is now live here with some more reporting.

now that this is public I can confirm that the majority of today’s layoffs were women of color. there are no longer any Black women working at Teen Vogue.

I'm seeing a whole lot less outrage for the journalists of color who have been systematically discarded at places like NBC and CBS (and across journalism, really) than the response to Jimmy Kimmel's 5-day suspension.

Law enforcement is violently targeting press at protests around Los Angeles, from easily recognizable "mainstream" outlets to freelancers and independents. ALL press have explicit legal protections in California. #JournalismIsNotACrime.

This evidence thread may get graphic. 🧵👇

Nicole is one of the most thoughtful, kind editors I've met. She had done so much great work in this space and I feel lucky I got to see even a snippet of how much she loved what she was doing at Polygon at AAJA23.

Huge loss for this industry on so many fronts. Polygon was so great.
Don't even know how to put these feelings into words. I've been back at Polygon for just a week after medical leave, to a new job after they eliminated the section I used to run, only to get laid off this morning

10 years ago, I ran an Oscar Pool for all of my 20s and the friends I accumulated along the way. (I stopped it in 2015 because I started covering entertainment).

Tonight, I'm tallying the lil Oscar Pool I'm running for the USC students I work with.

I love the Oscars.
