I saw James Watson speak at #riceuniversity and Baylor Med School when I was an undergrad at Rice in 1986. He came to an upper level class in biology that all of us bio majors were allowed to attend. His lectures were entertaining and wild. 🧪🧵1/5

new @teenvogue.com: students at the 9 colleges invited to Trump's "college compact" have been pushing their universities to reject it.

+ a bit of a scoop: @sunrisemvmt.bsky.social tells us that they're launching a national coalition to support students pushing their schools to fight the Trump admin
College Students and Faculty Resist Trump’s “Free Speech” Funding Scheme
Nine universities across the country were given a test of loyalty from the Trump administration. Now, students are demanding their schools not sign the president’s 10 point compact agreement.

We had an amazing time last night with @michaelemann.bsky.social and @peterhotezmdphd.bsky.social as they discussed their new book #ScienceUnderSiege!

One poignant quote: “Anti-science is a lethal force.” Standing up for science saves lives! ✊

I used to think that this was only true because no one knew how to actually debate and how to actually moderate a debate.

Lots of people make that mistake.

It does harm because it communicates to them and the world that their bullshit hatred might have merit.

Every time you want to give the democrats a pass on trans issues, ask yourself if you would be ok if they threw black, Latino, lgbtq or women under the bus the same way. The answer always has to be no. Period.

This looks like required reading!!
Working with Peter on this book has been especially rewarding, meaningful...and therapeutic. We had no idea just how sadly relevant #ScienceUnderSiege would be when we set out to write the book a year and a half ago.

The FTC is seeking public comment about gender affirming care in order to go after providers and restrict access. Share your stories instead of how this care has helped you and how it is life saving.

We need to counteract their false narratives. Please share!

Definitely. Great to see someone holding the line.
I think it’s clear he wants to die in a dugout but I really hope Terry Francona lives long enough to give a Hall of Fame speech. The game needs that.
Ex-Cleveland manager Terry Francona to Trump wanting Indians name to return: “[Trump says], ‘Why can’t it be like it used to be?’ And I my retort would be, ‘There’s probably a lot of people in this country who don’t want it like it used to be.’ And if you’re white, (you’re) probably just fine.”

As I was scrolling I saw this and thought “What? An early female paleontologist or geologist that I never heard of?” Nope, but her story is still amazing.
Trijn van Leemput (c. 1530–1607) was a Dutch heroine of the Eighty Years' War against Spain.
She led a large group of women on May 2, 1577, to the castle of Vredenburg and gave the signal to begin demolishing the castle.

1. On Tuesday, Congresswoman Sarah McBride gave a interview with Ezra Klein at the New York Times.

It has been used to seed the ground for a rightward shift in the Democratic Party on trans rights.

Some allies have failed to grasp the problems with her approach.

Here's what McBride gets wrong.
What Sarah McBride Gets Wrong
Congresswoman Sarah McBride recently interviewed with Ezra Klein at the New York Times, where she advocated for a more cowardly form of politics when it comes to transgender people.
