Afaik Gen Urobuchi never stated that Equilibrium had any influence on Madoka Magica, but considering that he wrote Equilibrium fanfic in the past and how creative Homura and especially Mami get with their guns, one does wonder…

I lowkey get where op is coming from, but it's important to consider that Wicked as an idea is less a perspective flip of the books or the 1939 film and more a work made for people who may be aware that there are other Oz books but only really know the film.
my fundamental issue with Wicked is that the brilliance and power of the Wizard of Oz movie (1939) is that *Oz is not a real place*
it is the dream of a young girl whose life is already a tragedy (parents dead) and is going nowhere fast (stuck in Kansas, town controlled by Gulch/Wicked Witch)
