A circular manhole cover (although I suspect there is no hole under it) set in a piece of pavement. It has a star pattern, and poking through the holes are little bits of greenery, taking any opportunity they can.

This katydid from Ecuador has been affectionately named by photographers "candy-cane katydid". The truth is... we are not sure which species it is. One possibility is a Harroweria nymph, but until someone witnesses the transformation into the adult stage it will remain a mystery.

SOOTHING BIRD FACT

Megapodes, bizarre turkey-like birds found in Australia, Indonesia, New Guinea, and on other islands in that region, bury their eggs in mounds and then abandon them, turtle-style. The chicks hatch, dig themselves out, and are immediately self-sufficient. 🪶

Its beak is black and short, like a black sunflower seed. The bird looks impudent. Annoyed by your presence. That's all right. Humans have not done much to earn the favor of birds these days though to be fair, the bird is there because there is a bird feeder nearby, so a little gratitude would be nice, bird. It's fine.
