We are the quiet unnoticed Heron, inspiring Heroneers all over Planet Earth, as you encounter Heronkind for 1st or 1000th time.
"Nature is reported in the fullness of life... To the full heart she is all but a figure of speech"-Thoreau www.everyheron.com
Pinned
In olden days people saw Heron as some of the saddest, wretched, depressed creatures. Perhaps they just saw themselves reflected?

Today people who stop to watch describe us as meditating, thoughtful, wise, and seeing the world better than most. Again, reflections. 💙 (1804)
What is this life if, full of care,
We have no time to stand and stare.

No time to see, in broad daylight,
Streams full of stars, like skies at night.

When you can't find a Bittern
Then paint one instead

The cloak of Invisibility is well done in this painting #HeronArt
Second bird for #BirdArtWeek2026 / #HiddenBirds is a hidden American Bittern 👀 I've always wanted to see one in the wild but haven't had any luck yet. They hide too well.

More info about this painting on my website blog.

Holbein acryla gouache on a 4x4 in. wood coaster.

London's Grey Heron are some of the earliest Grey Heron nesters in the UK. Here on island opposite the restaurants of Richmond upon Thames.

It's a calculated risk 🧮 - your chick may freeze to death, or it gets a head start on the others and reaches next winter stronger, and makes it through.
@everyheron.bsky.social The first three nests occupied at #richmond. From memory, a touch earlier than last year? #Birds

Full cold weather outfit.
Every feather deployed, and then some more.
I was very surprised to see a Great Blue Heron doing some ice fishing in Central Park's Loch this morning! And in its full cold weather gear! 💙🩶💙 #Herons #CentralPark #birding

Georgey Grey Heron of Hampstead Heath, London.
Hampstead Heath
It was the first time I had seen a Heron in the wild. This particular bird responded to the name 'Georgy' when called by an old man.
It was amusing when all the pigeons went to surround him when he brought the food bag out. I dedicate this piece to him.

Rarely seen
The Heron Liminal Aura
Becomes visible
Within the ice
The first in my #PostMore effort (see previous post). I love how the ice forms perfect circles sometimes and how this heron is enjoying (i’m assuming) the framing. I might not’ve posted this before—because it’s not pretty or funny (my 2 normal criteria)—but I’m posting it now! 🪶

I watched this juvenile Little Blue Heron jump up onto a bush and pluck an anole into his mouth. He then flew down onto the sidewalk and crossed in front of me as if to say, “Look what I got!”

Grey Heron know how to work the system to get through the tough winters... First find yourself a Heroneer, then pose your pose, until they start giving you food...
We now have our own personal Grey Heron that visits us nearly every day for snacks while the nearby lake is frozen.

There aren't always enough cows to go around for each Cattle Egret to have one of their own.

So some must just put up with standing on the back of a car.
I got such a kick out of this one I saw the other day. He just looked like he was up to no good.

In South London there's a reservation where a few dinosaur still roam and prehistory seeps through.

This Grey Heron is hitching a ride (you'll see the modern Cattle Egret do the same with cows)

Why can't fish try look a little happier in their Heron photos...

... In their 15 seconds of fame
I sit on my stool and they will show me how good they are at catching fish.

Why did the Heron cross the road?

Maintaining their mystery, they refuse to say. It is assumed to be related to their important fish work.
Why did the heron cross the road? 😊
