We understand how seeing something visually unsettling or inconsistent can immediately pull you out of a game—especially in a visual novel/ADV, where trust in the visuals is essential to immersion.
We also fully understand your frustration with the disconnect between the writing’s focus on beauty and the visuals that followed. You are absolutely right that this kind of mismatch can undermine an otherwise cohesive artistic experience, and it is deeply regrettable that this happened.
To clarify, AI-assisted tools were used only as a source of inspiration and visual reference for some in-game artworks. No AI was used in the creation of main characters or scenario writing.
That said, we recognize that this does not lessen the impact the visuals had on your experience.
We have updated our disclosure in Steam’s content questionnaire, and after discussions with our art team, we are now progressively replacing, wherever possible, the items whose final implementation closely reflects AI-assisted inspiration.
Dark Auction was created with great respect for visual storytelling, and it is especially painful for us to hear this from someone who is a fan of both Trace Memory / Another Code and Kohske.
