I will never not understand how a minority of people have decided that wind farms - significantly prettier than pylons, coal power plants, nuclear power plants, and almost certainly fusion power plants - are ugly. In terms of energy generation, what else are you hoping for that is better?
On holiday, I notice that there are wind turbines on the shore of Lake Garda, which very much makes me think that residents with a view of some incredibly mid Cotswold or other can put a sock in it.

Margaret Thatcher quit as an MP 33 years ago today.

Her cruel decisions have echoed through the decades, creating some of the most serious problems the UK faces in 2025.

Apple down $311B, Meta $133B, Amazon $187B — a casual $631B vanished after the latest tariff tantrum. Turns out markets don’t respond well to economic policy written in crayon. Meanwhile, Trump is busy taxing the penguins.

Virtual picket line.

Don’t share Guardian/observer articles today please
Solidarity with my colleagues at the Observer and the Guardian who are striking today and tomorrow. There is a virtual picket line, too. If you value the paper, its history, its staff, and freelancers like me, please support them by avoiding reading and sharing any articles for the next 48 hours.

🍽️ it’s a miserable day today so decided to bake instead.
This ball of dough will soon become delicious flatbreads.
It’s a great ‘no-need recipe’ because I absolutely hate kneeding.
Just 2hrs to rest.

Boris Johnson promised farmers that “subsidies would stay - 100% guaranteed”.

🚜 The National Farmers’ Union council was overwhelmingly in support of “Remain”, but decided not to campaign outright, as it would upset some of their larger farmers who were cheering Brexit.
What happened to those post-Brexit farm subsidies?
We need a discussion about UK food and farming, our resilience to external and self-inflicted events, and where the money is going
