It really cannot be emphasized enough that the Holocaust was modeled after the American campaign to displace and exterminate Indigenous people. This country drew up that blueprint.
Fascism isn’t new to the US. It’s always been here. It’s built into this country‘s DNA. Bigotry is our primary export. We just quantified and qualified it under the false title of ”freedom” because that’s what the masses here want & what (yht) ppl with guns & bibles as their personality like to hear

I wonder if there’s a need for democratic countries in particular to define themselves against some other regime. Like if your founding myths all have to do with democratic institutions, you need an enemy who has antithetical institutions for contrast. For most of the last 50 years…

In future history books, MAGA will be as shorthand for evil as nazi was before MAGA embraced it. Directors will go through Spielbergesque arcs of using MAGA as stock cartoon villains before reconsidering it while making a serious drama about the pain they inflicted.

Hayao Miyazaki has done a lot of great movies, but I want to shout out the manga of Nausicaa of the Valley of Wind. Dude did ONE* comic in his life, and it was one of the greatest comics of all time.
*(I believe he has actually drawn others, but not many, and I don’t think they’re in English)

If you’ve never read it before, you should take the time to do so. It’s very short, prose wise, very much worth taking the time to do so and… it resonates in ways that should be strikingly obvious.

I cannot stress enough that I swear I’m not being an old curmudgeon when I say modern muppets with all the money Disney wants to hand them and all the cleanest and brightest felt simply do not work as well as the low budget grimy stuff Henson was doing almost 50 years ago.
Muppets comedy doesn’t require a huge production budget. It also doesn’t have to be cranked to 11 to deliver solid comedy beats *if* you can deliver them through strongly defined characters. You can watch this & instantly know & laugh at these character types in a sketch...

I don’t like the well-known Kurt Vonnegut quote. I think he’s wrong. If you don’t think art has any social function, then just quit! Art doesn’t pay well enough to be worth the pain if you think it doesn’t do anything.

"What do you want the Dems to DO exactly?" is kicked dog behavior. Elected officials are not meant to do insider trading and occasionally give a 4/10 speech about civility. They are an expression of the values of those they represent, you're damn right I expect up to and including physical action.
