UNTIL IT’S DONE, Ep. 4: Sylvia Rivera

In the 1970s, queer New Yorkers had been pushed to the margins of NYC. Our trans neighbors faced immense cruelty. But in Sylvia Rivera, they found a champion.

As we combat Trump’s politics of darkness, her legacy can light the path forward.

I used to get mad when people misused "decimated" to refer to things that weren't 1/10th destroyed, but I've given it some thought and now I've done a complete 360 on it

Give folks their flowers

No, I mean right now. Go tell someone you loved their work right now. They're on social media just say it, it has never been easier

"They know how much people love--" no they don't go say it right now to a composer or artist or game dev or writer or anyone AAAAAAAHHHHHHHHH

Today marks the 40th anniversary of the 7th episode of Dirty Pair, "愛こそすべて命賭けます逃避行!!" or "Love Is Everything, Betting Their Lives on Elopement", one of the most overtly trans-positive episodes of anime of its era. This was the future they predicted for us in 1985. We can still get there.

Today I wrote about a general tendency to accept atrocious premises, and the need to reject fascism's false choices in order to find expansive and imaginative paths forward.

Breaking the premise, embracing the obstacles, pursing everything.

There Is No Trolley Problem
We actually aren't constrained into atrocious premises by thought exercises. Obstacles are a reason to fight, not an excuse to quit. Our friends and neighbors aren't distractions..

I did not expect that throwaway thought from yesterday to take off so here’s a thread about bathroom access and human health. It’s bleak, but it’s really important to illustrate how the framing about “comfort” is intentionally used to obscure a whole range of downstream, intentional lasting harms.

Trans people are now banned from UPenn, Harvard, Brown, Cornell, Columbia, intntnl track & field, the Olympics, chess, darts, most federal jobs, the US military & intelligence services, federal facilities, public bathrooms in most states, & many local sports. Seems bad! Let me know what I missed!

This is correct. Any candidate cynically “triangulating” on trans kids is a non-starter, and now is the time to say so. There’s still so much time to advance candidates that DON’T suck.
I will never, ever vote for Gavin Newsom. Ever, under any circumstances. I don't care if he becomes the Dem nominee, he's still not getting my vote.
On a recent podcast Gavin Newsom tells Shawn Ryan how the Trans sports issue opened the door for him to change his mind on GAC for Trans Youth.

As someone who adored him since 2004 and voted for him 5 times, I can't wait for him to leave office.

There is no way I will be voting for him a 6th time.

why does this matter so much?

• despite hard work to reframe it by the media, trans care isn’t a luxury item

• there are ~1.3 million trans people in the US

• ~ 275,000 rely on medicaid for care access—about 22%

• stripping access to lifesaving care for a 1/4 of trans people is a genocidal move🧵
hi, cis folks!

the senate budget bill is out & this version still contains a prohibition against lifesaving trans healthcare for medicaid/CHIP—that's 275,000 people!

if you're willing to stand with trans folks, please call your senators—no matter who. follow the thread for context & scripts.🧵

It can be easy to get caught up in comparing yourself to other people. But remember there are advantages we all have or don't have that are totally invisible from the outside. You are doing your best with the life you have and your story is unique.
Not everything in life is a competition. It's ok to just chill even if it means you don't win sometimes.
