Braving Hellscape, USA, with my partner, kiddos, doggo, and cat queen. I did not vote for this chaos. My apologies to the world at large.

There should never be shame in needing help from a food pantry. But this is gut-wrenching: working every day, not getting paid for weeks, and needing a food pantry you didn’t need before.

What’s shameful is that this is completely avoidable. Republicans need to get back to DC and negotiate.

We cannot move forward or escape this nightmare until mainstream figures finally admit that there are many, many people on the right - including some of its most powerful voices - who are openly seeking violence and tyranny and exploit every situation to move it closer.

If you read one thing today, let it be Dr. Daskalakis' resignation letter from CDC.

This administration is now shattering the public trust and scientific truth it has taken the nation decades to build in public health. Devastated to think of the unnecessary deaths that will come from this HHS.
Full resignation letter from Demetre C. Daskalakis, a CDC leader, does not hold back.
"The recent shooting at CDC is not why I am resigning. My grandfather, who I am named after, stood up to fascist forces in Greece and lost his life doing so. I am resigning to make him and his legacy proud."

This has always been the GOP's strategy:

1) Cut taxes for the wealthy & corporations by claiming they'll pay for themselves.

2) Explode deficits

3) Use the debt as an excuse to demand cuts to vital programs that help millions.

4) Repeat.

The flooding in Texas “was not a divine punishment with an in-built moral design, but rather a catastrophe half engineered by humanity, lacking in moral design altogether,” Elizabeth Bruenig writes:
After the Flood
When the earth drinks in the last of the waters, the places that remain will be different than they were before—turned sacred by overwhelming loss.

Who has the responsibility of acting on the forecast? Not the NWS. It comes down to state and county agencies. I can imagine that no one wants to be the boy who cried wolf on the busiest weekend of the year.

There also needs to be recognition that consciously or unconsciously, the folks who now "distrust experts" especially on climate, delay precautionary action as a social result of that internalized prejudice. (Then blame those experts for not getting alarms past the new cognitive barriers.)

Starting July 7, 2025, the National Archives at College Park will shut its doors to the public. Only those with “legitimate business” can enter. A federal records facility—closed to the very public it’s supposed to serve? This should raise eyebrows. It smells BAD.

I keep thinking about our armed service members who are now in a war, led by a Commander-in-Chief who will consider them “losers and suckers” should they become injured or, God forbid, lose their lives in the time ahead.

The rest of us good Americans thank you for your service. Godspeed.

Ignoring the intel we had that was good, missing intel we needed (about nuke locations), lacking a strategy or a plan for next steps, inflaming the situation with reckless talk about regime change, an out-of-control ally, a POTUS who doesn't take advice, bad advisors, bad process=Formula for fiasco.

Alex Taylor believed he had made contact with a conscious entity within OpenAI’s software, and that she'd been murdered. Then everything went wrong.
