not accusing Elizabeth of this, but there’s a faux-savvy take that floats around lefty circles sometimes that if you controlled for voter suppression, the south looks like the north. not remotely true.

Back on the other place, I once tweeted in response to one of those parking lot, car trunk Halloween events. I said oh these make me so sad. Because it means that people without children don’t get to participate in the collective joy of seeing the kids in their costumes. Sad. Not mad. Sad.

This would strip *thousands* of DC residents who live in 2-4 unit buildings of their TOPA rights.

TOPA is the first right to buy your home — a key tenant right in DC.

DC residents had NO opportunity to testify on this because it was a last-minute amendment to the bill.

No one should support this.
Tomorrow the D.C. Council will take a final vote on the RENTAL Act, which would speed up some evictions and exempt newer buildings from the law that gives tenants first right to buy. Also: CM Anita Bonds' amendment to exempt 2-4 unit buildings from TOPA. Rationale is below.

Once again: this is also happening in DC. Still.

It feels like we’ve been forgotten, maybe because there aren’t huge confrontations to run photos of. But our neighbors are still being taken every day. Routine traffic stops are now done by 12+ feds alongside local police.

Please talk about us too.
