Thank you!
This is a really great trilogy that starts off seeming to be straightforward military SF & gets increasingly complex about our complex world. It's got tons of solid action, cyber/nanotech, heists, etc. It is, sadly, very relevant today but also about resistance & resilience. Well worth your time.

BTW, if you're someone who's only recently encountered my Red trilogy, you might be interested in a short story prequel, "Codename: Delphi", available to read online at Lightspeed Magazine. @lightspeedmagazine.com

NEW: We’ve uncovered the first known example of taxpayer money flowing from DHS to businesses controlled by Kristi Noem’s allies and friends.

It’s part of a money trail that’s been shrouded in secrecy—and involves $220 million, a mysterious Delaware LLC & a horse named Gill.

In the century leading up to 1975, nearly 6000 freighters went down in the Great Lakes.

The Edmund Fitzgerald was the last.

The last. In 50 years, not a single commercial freighter has been lost in the Great Lakes.

Why?

It's NOAA. Of course it's NOAA.

Yesterday I learned USPS Priority Mail can be put on a ship to transit between the west coast and Hawaii, thus explaining why packages disappear from tracking for days/weeks**—never mind the estimated delivery date!

boosting this again because honestly I am proud of this near future and very political sf story, the illustration by Juan Bernabeu is exceptional, and big shout out to the editor Oliver Dougherty for having such a keen eye.
An older medic with scant resources fights to support her community as they survive life behind the company wall.

This novelette is my only near future sf story, inspired by a long-ago convo with my dad & by the activists who never give up.

It is very clear the gutting of Teen Vogue is about silencing their excellent political coverage. Corporations want you uninformed and shut off from meaningful journalism. And they’re staggeringly successful at it so far.
I was laid off from Teen Vogue today along with multiple other staffers, and today is my last day.

certainly more to come from me when the dust has settled more, but to my knowledge, after today, there will be no politics staffers at Teen Vogue.

it's time for journos to start asking Johnson meta questions

"Speaker, on 5 occasions last week you said 'I haven't seen it' when asked about news events w/big implications for public policy. Do you ever read the news, and do you agree it's problematic for the Speaker to be so woefully uninformed?"

GOOD NEWS! Researchers have developed a new mRNA vaccine that has been shown to suppress abnormal blood vessel growth in the retina, offering hope to MILLIONS of patients with age-related vision loss. The vaccine triggered strong antibody responses that REDUCED retinal damage by UP TO 85%.

So preposterously unconstitutional, but also: active duty military payroll is more than $3b **per week.** This is a pittance of that. It has nothing to do with helping out the troops- they want to establish the precedent that Trump can bypass Congress and fund the government with anonymous bribes.
New: The Pentagon confirms to CNN it will funnel $130M from an anonymous Trump “friend” toward military pay.

Asked about the donor’s identity and any foreign or domestic entanglements, the WH referred questions to DoD. DoD then referred questions back to the WH

Some more details:
-a 1-time, 5% wealth tax on billionaires currently living in the state
-affects around 200 people
-moving won't matter; based on 2025 residency
-billionaires earn 7.5%/yr, they'd still come out ahead
-yields enough to cover the Medicaid gap for 5 years & have some $ left for K-12
California is readying a one-time 5% tax on billionaires for the 2026 ballot that would go toward compensating for Trump's Medicaid cuts. The architects see it as a national model.
It will be announced today.
