Timeline diversion: the new Harry-the-hedgehog has arrived. This is the third iteration of Xena's absolute favorite toy.

I did not know squash vines were perennials until 3 vines from last year decided to make a come back. The blond fruit is a Seminole landrace-cross from Moloka'i. Others are kabocha & similar. Only 3 fruits are from new plants. And there are ~4 more in the garden. Hoping neighbors like winter squash!

That feeling when, on a sunny day, you stretch out your arms, lean back against a fence, and suddenly feel something soft and warm scrabbling to get out from under your palm. 😱

First bloom on our newest 'Ohi'a tree—a variety named Mana Alani—that went into the ground last December. We have three much older trees. This makes the fourth in our little forest. #nativeplants #Hawaii

Last year was my first successful year growing squash and pumpkins. This year, to my surprise, some of those plants decided they were perennials, rather than annuals. I'm good with that. #gardening #Kula #Maui

First time I've tried growing kalo (taro) and the plants have done surprisingly well so far, despite the chilly winter nights and often cloudy days at our upcountry home. #Kula #Maui

Oh yes, my books too are listed in LibGen, "the Pirated-Books Database That Meta Used to Train AI" according to the Atlantic article. There's even a story collection that shouldn't exist, since I never published one under that title.
Here's the search link:

Love these flowers. I purchased a single Hippeastrum bulb years ago, which gradually grew into a community.

African iris in bloom, in early morning sunlight.
This species blooms every couple of weeks, with the older plants putting on a spectacular show. Seeds form afterward and the plants pop up everywhere. This one, now several years old, was a volunteer.

Harvested the last of the persimmons this past weekend. This is the first year my little tree gave me a really nice harvest. I credit the improvement to regular watering, applying #permaculture ideas, and a lack of severe storms. #grateful

There were definitely too many avocados on that branch.🙄
It broke with a sound like gunshot. Glad I wasn't anywhere near it at the time. And that wasn't even the branch I expected to break. #gardening #gardens

I'm posting these terrible phone photos only because this is the first time I ever saw a WHITE common myna. I didn't know such a thing existed. One Google reference calls it a pied white myna. Bird photographers! If you want to try to find it, this was in the Target parking lot in Kahului. #birds
