The story behind my display name is that many people commonly mispronounce my surname as “who” or “how”. It’s actually pronounced similarly to “ho” in Mandarin. Associate my surname with the resounding laughter of 🎅🏽 — and my laughter (bonus if you know the connection to my sign name in ASL!)
Is it appropriate to publish two different reviews of one book (not in the same venue)? Asking for myself.

I teach students linguistics theories by introducing them to variation of “theory” in natural and social sciences and comparing them to conspiracy theory — but never thought about adding color theory to my lecture until just now.

Inspiration comes from talking to people outside of your field.

The fact that a sitting president is willing to sacrifice SNAP benefits, something that millions of people, should tell you who he is there to serve. He does not care that it will starve children. He does not care that people will die, but above all, he does not care about the rule of law.
Trump is staring down a noon deadline on Monday to update a federal judge who ruled that they must disburse food assistance funds.

This comes as tens of millions of Americans continue to go without SNAP benefits due to the shutdown, which is just days away from becoming the longest in U.S. history.

NYC linguists give the linguistic answer, but also patiently explain why this isn't an excuse:

Unpopular opinion: I don’t find it particularly funny when linguists — signing or nonsigning — make jokes about handshapes for whatever reason.

Yesterday I was told that the class I’m scheduled to teach this month, Confronting Oppression & Injustice, is no longer part of our curriculum. This is a required class yet there was no discussion, no faculty vote, just an email saying the class no longer exists. This is what it’s like in Texas now.

As someone who has studied the circulation of terms “subversive” and “communist” in the lead to and through McCarthyism as empty signifiers to justify violent suppression I feel like I’m both amazed and unsurprised how transparently and unsophisticatedly “woke” and “antifa” are now doing the same.

In general, it's f-----g insane that the sitting POTUS and VP regularly single out individual citizens for disparagement using their official gov't accounts.

I think there was a pretty strong presidential norm against this sort of thing until, well, about 8 years ago.
What I can’t get over is just how interpersonally unpleasant this is. Think about good leaders in history, no matter who you think that is - would any of them go to a minority critic and tell them to “express a little gratitude” with a sneer? Of course not, because it makes your skin crawl

🗣️THE ONLY REASON THEY ARE TALKING ABT THIS IS THAT THEY DO NOT WANT AUTISTIC PEOPLE TO EXIST.

🗣️IT IS EUGENICS.
