So many new faces, I love it! If you weren’t following me on the other place, you can expect: cats, cocktails, travel photos, random science musings, things other people post that are funny or important, bouts of anger at the election outcome. Engaging in a new space can be scary but please do!

I had a lot to say about the ending of Stranger Things. That show got me.
"Stranger Things has always been about change, friendship, and acceptance. It never changed to make people who didn’t get it feel better; it accepted itself for what it was beautifully."

“Can’t believe NYC elected a Muslim as mayor.”

In truth—a Black American Christian woman swearing in a Ugandan American Muslim of South Asian ethnicity as his Syrian American wife holds the Qurans he swears in on, all while standing on the steps of a subway station—is the most NYC thing imaginable.

Update: gay hockey show binge complete. It FULLY lives up to the hype. So great on literally every level of TV-making, and yes ep 5 truly must win all the awards. If I had to pick one bone it's that 10 years go by and NOBODY AGES at all, they simply chose not to even try.
I clearly need to binge the gay hockey show ASAP
Important news for the Bluesky userbase (37-year-olds who went to the free Prospect Park shows every summer): Wolf Parade has the No. 1 song on Spotify right now because it's in the gay hockey movie.

Okay, so at the request of the lovely @trance.bsky.social , I'm going to tell a story about what happens when a shitty person is "just joking", and then discovers there are consequences.

It isn’t “for no reason”.

The tariffs allow Trump to hold large corporations hostage until they pay him massive bribes. The reason is to enrich Trump, whatever the cost.

I’m tired of people thinking there’s some deep policy or something when it’s just mundane mob shakedown shit.
Costs for small businesses shot up this year thanks to Trump's tariffs—how is this putting America first?

This is why I keep harping on about her. There are lots of shitty, unethical journalists. Plenty of people have had affairs with politicians.

But this affair knocked over a set of dominoes that set public health back 50 years. Children will die of preventable diseases because of her.

100% this. If you find it “slow” or complain that nothing is happening I’m sorry but we can’t hang out anymore.

This whole thread on what’s happening at the New School should terrify anyone with any vested interest in the survival of higher education in this country. I fear other schools aren’t far behind…
New School “administrators have started to implement a plan to close, overhaul or merge about 30 academic programs or majors; pause nearly all admissions to doctoral programs; and offer buyouts or early retirement to what professors say is about 40 percent of the full-time faculty.”

"I refuse." This is it. There's no reason we should accept a narrative of an already settled future which marginalizes humans and individual agency. No one wants this. No one asked for it.
"This promise of an AI future, is really just a collective anxiety that wealthy people have about how well they're gonna be able to control us in the future."
