So many new faces, I love it! If you weren’t following me on the other place, you can expect: cats, cocktails, travel photos, random science musings, things other people post that are funny or important, bouts of anger at the election outcome. Engaging in a new space can be scary but please do!

Way to absolutely DESTROY the election buzz in just 5 days, folks. JFC how did any of these people get elected in the first place.
EIGHT Senate Democrats have voted to advance the funding measure so far after the deal was reached:

Cortez Masto
Durbin
Fetterman
Hassan
Kaine
King
Rosen
Shaheen

If the existing 52 Republicans hold, that's 60 — enough to advance this agreement. Final vote still to come.

The answer to one of modern society's great mysteries is SO much more satisfying than you'd ever imagine. Thread below:
I LEARNED THE ANSWER TO THIS

Chris's Steakhouse was a New Orleans landmark

Chris Matulich periodically got bored, sold it, waited for the new owner to fail, and bought it back cheap

The sale conditions: Can't move it, can't change the name

He did this six times

Then he sold it to Ruth Fertel
what did ruth mean when she said her steakhouse was "chris"

“feminization of veterinary medicine” so true bestie, I heard it’s now common practice for veterinarians to castrate your pets
F*ck off.

Here's the latest drivel from our boy Ross. The 'too many female vets' part made by head explode.

"the feminization of veterinary medicine has not led to the collapse of society, and is unlikely to do so. I think it’s basically fine, but ——"

It got drowned out in all the good news from last night, but Boston Mayor Michelle Wu became the youngest person to be reelected in the city's history.

She ran unopposed because her opponent--Patriots owner Bob Kraft's son--withdrew a few months ago after realizing he had no hope of winning.

No Kings except for King Owlbert!
Meet our newest patient here at the Alaska Raptor Center, a Northern Pygmy Owl named King Owlbert by his rescuers. Owlbert arrived with a drooping wing, making flight difficult. We’ve given him a supportive wing wrap, plenty of tasty mice, and time to heal. #small #owls #adorable

Someone asked me the other day*:

How do we replace all the science that’s being lost across the US as NIH, NSF etc are being lawlessly destroyed?

The answer is: we cannot. It is impossible.
The task now is to defend #NIH and public funding for medical research.

Brown is out! They had to do more dancing in their letter because they previously capitulated and needed to reference their previous agreement but, at its core, this reiterates MIT's letter.

The clock is now on for all other institutions.

Was lucky enough to see “One Battle After Another” in VistaVision last night. The hype is true, this film is a masterpiece. Everything about it is just peak - the acting, the editing, the pacing. It will make you believe in the fights we face now and in those that lie ahead.
