My most recent book centers on the fact that two ancestors--one born in Ireland--were declared "colored" by the state of VA. Had they stayed in Virginia, my father couldn't have married my mother. Record keeping reinforced and sometimes simply invented permanent racial identities.

American politics makes a lot more sense when you realize that the GOP is afraid of pissing off the GOP base, and the Dems are afraid of pissing off the GOP base, but neither party is afraid of pissing off the Dem base.

We, the voters, delivered a really huge win for the Democrats. Democratic Senators took that as a sign that it was time to cave in return for nothing at all.

How about we shut down the government for this very popular and specific goal and then, hear me out, we hold out for like a month and a half and then, ok this part is important, after a watershed election where we ran the table, ONLY THEN, fold and don't get the one thing we said we wanted.

Sure, you might be upset that they shut down the government, and then, right after voters delivered a huge win, caved and got exactly nothing in return. But on the bright side, now they can put us through exactly the same process in January. Please send the DNC money ASAP

The leadership of the Democratic Party is completely useless. They looked at a huge win in the last election, and at Trump's increasing unpopularity, and decided, yeah, now is the time to fold in return for NOTHING.

This piece sums up the ridiculousness of the media and the intense frustration you have with it if you want to talk about anything substantial
“A writer at the Times contacted me to talk. He said he was less interested in Mamdani himself than he was in the Africana Studies part…” On why maybe you shouldn’t talk to the New York Times about Zohran Mamdani.
Maybe Don’t Talk to the New York Times About Zohran Mamdani
It’s remarkable, the people you’ll hear from. Teach for even a little while at an expensive institution—the term they tend to prefer is “elite”—and odds are that eventually someone who was a studen…

The GOP is getting b lamed for this inane shutdown in large part because Trump is always flexing about how all-powerful he is. It goes against his brand to have to say "I'm helpless to do anything against these Democrats."

This is amazing. Some poor man collapses during an oval office presser on health. RFK jr scampers out of the room and trump stands there, incapable of compassion or empathy

The VA results were a disaster for the GOP so maybe posting a video of Trump wearing a crown flying in a jet and shitting on people was a bad idea?

In the 1870s, coal magnates in PA mobilized a private police force against a non existent organization, the Molly Maguires. Like ANTIFA, the Mollies were an object of intense hype and anxiety. Evidence for their existence came only from coal magnates and their press allies. 20 men were hung.
