In 2012 we measured the hierarchical growth of structure using galaxy groups.
In 2020 we analytically solved for the nonlinear growth of structure & it matched the Carnegie-Spitzer-IMACS Survey data.

But there’re more important things to worry about now.

I don't want the worst-case scenario to come true by any stretch but I am beginning to worry that the worst worst-case scenario is the rest of the world fixing the problem while my country stays full of people who say "see, it wasn't that big a deal and we told you we didn't have to do anything."
China’s CO2 emissions have now been flat or falling for 18 months, starting in March 2024.

This trend continued in the third quarter of 2025, when emissions were unchanged year-on-year.

If this trend starts to move into sustained carbon emissions reduction it would be hugely significant.

I'm old enough to remember 30 fucking years of prominent American politicians saying "BUT WHAT ABOUT CHINA?!?!" whenever we dared talk about climate policy.
"Oil demand and emissions in the transport sector fell by 5% in the third quarter, but grew elsewhere by 10%, as the production of plastics and other chemicals surged."

#China is cutting oil demand in transport. Has that ever happened in Western countries?

So much you can say about his legendary performance in RAN but one thing I'll always think of is how he managed to nail his performance in one of the riskiest shots in film history - a huge character moment as he walks away from the castle set that they are literally burning down behind him

Dan knows more about how Congress works than anyone I know, so this is an interesting thread.
Some thoughts on the CR/minibus.

1 The Dems negotiating with Rs were not freelancing. They coordinated with Sen Schumer. A few were ready to give in on day one, others worked to maximize appropriations wins.

Those voting for the 'deal' are the ones furthest away from electoral consequences.

Around these parts we call that “That’s actually not a plan; that’s just going back to where people don’t have any health care coverage.”
Rick Scott told me his plan would be to take all of the remaining ACA subsidies and redistribute them to HSA accounts and people can then buy whatever insurance a state certifies. Basically a repeal/replace.
He denied when I asked wouldn’t that create two-tiered system where sick pay much more…
