Extremely true, most of my favorite games have a learning curve that reads like "Bad" if you're only used to what's considered "Good", but like "Good" wouldn't even work for these games, the "Bad" is actually "intentionally designed to be interesting"

My hot take is not every game is for everyone, but these weird experimental games are magical if you take your time and figure out how they're meant to be played rather than trying to force it to work like what you've played before. There's beauty in the unknown they contain. That's every SaGa.

With respect, I Remember perusing the shelves at Blockbuster every Friday in the 1990s being like "Oh great another Mascot Platformer/Tetris Clone/Arcade port of a 1v1 fighter I've never heard of" until finding the game that ripped off Dragon Quest just enough that I'd devote my entire life to it.
HOT TAKE: modern insistence that theres a 'right' way to design games is leading to homogenised cookie cutter games.
That's why every game you played in the 1990s was a weird, enchanting delight and everything now is a bit stale and makes you feel like you've played it before.
