I don’t have access to Utah Historical Quarterly but I have read Hales’ reviews of books from William Davis and Dan Vogel plus Michael Quinn’s assessment of Hales scholarship. Hales is first and foremost an LDS apologist then maybe an academic.

I spent an extended amount of time with my daughter’s LDS father-in-law. At one point he said “She must have been difficult to raise.” A strange remark I thought, because she wasn’t. Then I remembered he’s an ass like the FIL below but she pushes back at that crap.

I’m planning to call my GOP rep’s office tomorrow to ask this question.
Aside from this being a cave on the Democrats part, it does put Mike Johnson in an awkward position he's been avoiding for weeks. Does he reconvene the House and take the risk of the Epstein discharge petition passing, or no? I don’t see how he can avoid it.

I’m not sure what traction Tim Ballard will have with active LDS overall but here is an LDS TikTok apologist platforming Tim’s complaint that the church did not follow its procedures in excommunicating him.

A leader would not have lost eight colleagues tonight. This happened because you let it happen or because you’ve totally lost control of the caucus in one of the most important moments since you’ve been Democratic leader. Either way, it’s on you. You need to step down. We need someone who can lead.
Democrats have been fighting for months to address America's healthcare crisis
For the millions who will lose coverage
For people with cancer who won't get the care they need
For working families who can't afford to pay $25K more a year for healthcare
We will keep fighting

“This is not just a secret war, but a secret unauthorized war. Or, in reality, a make-believe war, because most of these groups we probably couldn’t even be in a war with.”
Of the groups now known to be on the list, there is no evidence that they are actually participating in armed conflict with the United States.
Trump Has a Secret List of 24 “Designated Terrorist Organizations.” We Got Some of the Names.
The U.S. claims it is engaged in “armed conflict” with Tren de Aragua, Ejército de Liberación Nacional, and Cártel de los Soles, among others.

Astonishing how hard this administration is working to keep people hungry.
It's clear they are trying maximize public suffering, in hopes of getting people to blame Dems for that suffering. But it's transparently the White House working overtime to keep the suffering going!

Yikes. USDA sent threatening letter to states telling them that if they sent out EBT money —which many states did during the window when a lower court said SNAP funds had to be released—they have to take it back (?)
Trying to sort out what this means and if states even can claw back the funds
