When Israel hijacked international infrastructures to sneak bombs into Lebanon and the whole western world responded with “🤷♂️” that kinda told me the era of the rules based order was dead and buried. Like at that point what’s stopping a country from poisoning crops for resale? Nothing matters anymore
i can't help but think that october 7 and the response thereto really put the final nail in the "rules based international order" - by totally capitulating to the express and overt idea that "international law is fake," western states let the fig leaf fall and in so doing left themselves exposed

I think we’ve got better and more culturally-varied street food than I could have imagined, cool jackets galore, and drugs that make us think we’re really fast and strong before they kill us.
we're getting all the downsides of cyberpunk (social alienation, ruthless hyper capitalism, digital mass surveillance state) but none of the promised upsides (cheap street food, cool jackets, super drugs that make you really fast and strong before they kill you)

I agree with Nathan, and I would add that Carney is deploying political uncertainty to foster nationalism, inwardness, and a xenophobic distrust of "outsiders" in order to install a new or renewed capitalist order in Canada, where democracy itself is considered no longer up to the moment.
