Had a fantastic time volunteering with Solcana Fitness and helping to raise almost $135K at Drop Deadlift Gorgeous today. The vibe reminded me how awesome Mpls still is, esp the little nexus of cool businesses and orgs on Lake and Minnehaha www.instagram.com/reel/DPHgONJ...

Sooo I was at a coffee shop and the girl in line behind me decided to ask if I’d heard about Jesus.

In the United States.

In 2025.

“I have heard the sales pitch, yes,” I said. “I’m happy with my current religious services provider and not looking to make a switch.”

Check out Moroccan Flavors in Midtown Global Market, a hidden gem tucked away in a corner. It's usually open later than many of the other places in the building and it's delicious!

This person said they do a lot of work in the neighborhood & said ALL the restaurants on Lake were empty & begs y'all to support these businesses bc regardless of the reason or lies about why, they also intended to fearmonger on Lake St today. SUPPORT LAKE STREET BUSINESSES

In today's @nytimes.com : "digital subscription revenue during the period jumped more than 14 percent. Those results helped drive adjusted operating profit 21.9 percent higher from a year earlier, to $92.7 million in the quarter." Makes me feel SO much better about my sub fee almost doubling!

Another successful May Day dawn dancing up the sun in #mpls -- at least I'm pretty sure it's somewhere behind those clouds

Just got a notice that my @nytimes.com subscription (educator rate) is going from $12 to $20/month, making it the most expensive subscription I'd have by a large margin. This is after doubling from $6 just two years ago. So over 300% increase in 2 years! (1/2)

Here’s an explainer re possible impacts to the Institute of Museum & Library Services (IMLS). It “enumerates which programs are "shall" programs and duties, meaning that they are mandated by Congress, and which programs are "may" programs, meaning that they are discretionary for IMLS”

Extremely disappointed @amyklobuchar.com. Do you call this a merit-based choice? The are much more effective ways to show you are "bipartisan."
If I were a Democrat, and I saw Trump do a purge of high-level generals who were women and people of color and wouldn't be "yes men," I wouldn't vote to advance JD Vance's college friend for Secretary of the Army.

And yet....16 Democrats just did so

Remove the "T" from Trump. Nuff said.

On Holocaust Remembrance Day I am thinking of my great grandfather, Berek Mucha, z''l. My mother never met her grandfather, and he was rarely spoken of while she was growing up. I'm saying his name now.

Since I moved into the role of digital archivist a few years ago I don't have these interesting "encounters" in the collections I deal with these days. I did deaccession a 3.5" floppy drive someone had removed from a computer and donated thinking it was a hard drive with files on it. Fun times!
Well the country is in tumult but I successfully advocated for the deaccession (archival word for removal) of a 10 year old tube of #chapstick from our university #archives today. So I got that going for me! It was originally strawberry daiquiri flavored. It smells about as rancid as you’d expect.

I wish movies would include shaky cam warnings. It's so frustrating the # of times I've had to sit with my eyes closed for large parts of a movie or even leave. It makes me incredibly sick. At least I figured out before going to the cinema that I won't be able to watch Nickel Boys. Sad tho.

Why is it a right-wing/bro-y thing to constantly use the term "females" when referring to women (generally not girls, I note)? Makes it sound like they are talking about specimens of some other species. I guess that's probably the answer.

My grandfather, a Jew born in a Ukrainian village, became a US citizen in 1937. He entered the US by -- wait for it -- walking across the border from Mexico almost exactly 100 years ago, in December 1924.
yes, this is the heart of it. the “legal”/“illegal” distinction did not exist at the time the 14th amendment was written and ratified. if you want birthright citizenship to be restricted to legal immigrants then you need to amend the constitution, simple as that.
At the time the Fourteenth Amendment was passed and Wong Kim Ark was decided, there was no such thing as a legal versus an illegal immigrant. No "originalist" can take the idea birthright citizenship is not conferred upon the children of illegal immigrants seriously.

Why are the NYT's "Yom Kippur Break-fast" recipes all breakfast foods? Breakfast is, uh, not a thing during Yom Kippur. I'm guessing this "collection" was generated by some misguided AI bot.

Who knew my childhood stomping grounds could spark so much fascination. I admit I was always vague about where New Hope ended and Crystal or Golden Valley began. I just knew if you crossed Hwy 169 going east from my house you were definitely in New Hope.

My city council member's e-newsletter contained this helpful(?) list of things to put in an emergency kit for when the power goes out. Are phones that don't use electricity a thing? What do they run on? Natural gas?

As both a new MN state flag fan and a Mauer fan, I think it's perfect!
To quote @freealonzo.bsky.social, "Man, triggering the flag weirdos and Mauer skeptics in one image (admittedly the venn diagram may be one circle). Kudos." Hilarious.
