We are likely about to see a mass purging of archival documents and restricted access to researchers. This will be part of the regime’s effort to rewrite history itself.

Do you think when Sisyphus gets the rock to the top of the hill, before it rolls back down, a little party horn goes off? Maybe a kazoo?

Librarians aren't going to save us. Librarians aren't superheroes.

They're just people trying to keep largely underfunded and overwhelmed public services going.

Praise is nice; realistic expectations are better; material support is best.

I wrote this thread last year during one of the worst periods in my life, and it helps me when the urge to worry and doomscroll for hours is particularly powerful
When things feel extra chaotic and overwhelming, here's what helps me:
-doing less
-resting more
-spending more on outsourcing tasks
-aggressive hydration
-high-protein meals
-weekly therapy
-scheduling offline activities like museums and long dog walks on weekends
-focusing on things in my control

This is a sewing pattern. It is also a page from a late 14th century manuscript that is one of two primary sources for an important Icelandic saga (Sturlunga saga), but that was probably not important to the 17th century person who really needed a sewing pattern.

this genuinely, without exaggeration, healed a little fracture inside of me that has been broken my whole adult life
DID YOU KNOW for 25 years Matthew Shepard had no permanent resting place due to concerns his grave would be vandalized

Reverend Budde learned of this, she invited the Shepards to inter him inside the Washington National Cathedral.

She was and is a real hero.

Well the country is in tumult but I successfully advocated for the deaccession (archival word for removal) of a 10 year old tube of #chapstick from our university #archives today. So I got that going for me! It was originally strawberry daiquiri flavored. It smells about as rancid as you’d expect.

This is the archives equivalent of brushing your cat and ending up with a whole second cat’s worth of fluff

The issues on the table are all the duplicates of the contents of what’s already in the box.
