Learning loss didn’t come from “lockdowns” or remote instruction.
It COMES FROM (still happening) illness.
Illness caused by COVID.
Illness that makes kids miss school and teachers miss teaching.
SICK DAYS. And the vascular damage that causes incapacity to think & retain.
This is still happening.
Every time Covid and learning loss hits the news, people act like the only factor is folk staying home and learning online, rather than… Living through a global mass death event.

"Alice supported and took many people with Long COVID under her wing — I was honored to call her a colleague and friend."

“She explained how much Covid could hurt her & how vulnerable it felt to be unable to wear a mask to protect herself.

She was a perfect example of why other people need to wear masks even if they don’t personally think Covid will hurt them”

If you want to honour Alice Wong’s memory, please mask up
Thank You Alice Wong
Alice Wong has passed away and the disability community has lost a leader. I lost a mentor and a friend. The Disabled Ginger wouldn't exist without Alice and everything she taught me.

1) OMG we did it‼️‼️

In this film for #MEawarenessmonth, five medical doctors open up about living with #PAIS/#IACC conditions like ME, #longCOVID, and chronic #Lyme. It’s a format that I believe has never been shown before.

They speak candidly about their experiences

As a scientist working to promote health equity in the Deep South, I do not use BSky much b/c they have blocked access to Mississippi.

They disagree with a Mississippi age verification law (me too) but have failed to note any strategy to counter the law, increase access, or acknowledge they care.

My brother is a kinda Michael Phelps freak of nature 6’6 220 guy, he was the fourth fastest in the nation when he was 15, went to college as a sprinter for the polo team.

He said he practiced with Natalie Coughlin and she cooked him.

All this shit is just sour sixth-place finishers who want fifth
I *know* they weren’t training them like the guys. That’s why Janet Evans kept getting faster even as she got older, she was finally allowed access to the same coaches and facilities.

And that was in 1992

Auto-immune disorders, and post-viral sequelae, are *way* more common in cis women than cis men. They seem to be way more common in *anyone* running on estrogen.

90% of people with lupus are women, 75% of rheumatoid arthritis sufferers are women, women are 4x more likely to get post-viral CFS.

Children have died who have recovered from Cancer, only to be lost to COVID. Same for so many patients. It’s not acceptable that five years on there is no correct PPE in healthcare. No clean air and restricted vaccines. One life isn’t worth less than another and this is dividing families too.

Allowing people to make their own choices regarding safety during the ongoing pandemic of Covid-19 has resulted in a dangerous situation of collective negligence, because most people tend to be careless and reckless, and will exercise caution only if they are strongly required to do so.

Be aware, many hospitals are allowing their covid positive staff to work “ if they don’t have a fever.” Haven’t heard if they are required to mask. Hospitals are now even more unsafe if you don’t want to contract covid. Can you imagine if they did this with any other infectious disease?

The problem with Doctors and nurses masking when requested is that if you have a COVID infection, you have already then contaminated the room you are working in and many medical rooms are poorly ventilated. That means one gap in a highly vulnerable patients mask could cause hospitalisation or worse.

Both me and my daughter got #LongCovid after our first infections. We were both fully vaccinated. I have been bedbound for 3 years and she can't walk more than a few meters.
Some people still believe that vaccines are enough to prevent long covid. This is incorrect. Vaccines protect against disease severity and breakthrough infections are common. Any mild infection can lead to long covid. Yes it reduces long covid risks but it doesn’t eliminate this risk. Neither does

There is one thing worse than #COVID imo and that’s being someone who is highly vulnerable, who has been left without ANY medical protection for five years and then told to get on with your life. Many of these folks have been accused of ‘living in fear’ but they are the bravest souls in the country,

Hi @theglobeandmail.com, if you're going to publish a whole article on the history of how masks have been stigmatized - please get the science right. We're still in an airborne pandemic. N95 masks are FOR everyone. Not just the vulnerable.

Long before the pandemic, masks carried historical baggage and cultural meanings

A lot of people who keep saying “but people who are really disabled will be fine” are about to find out that “disabled” is a real schrodinger's cat type of label where you’re disabled for the purposes of elimination targeting and able-bodied for the purposes of benefits
