One last observation - UK adult education is very poorly served: the assumption is you enter a career path at 18 and stay on the same for the next 50 years. There is so much economic and social value to be gained from properly supported & funded adult education. But we get gimmicky waste like this.
BREAKING: Free AI training will be offered to every adult in the UK, with short courses to teach people how to use simple AI tools effectively in the workplace.

A 77% increase in immigration raids, 83% increase in arrests, coupled with undermining modern slavery protections and a call to remove basic ECHR rights from migrants.
If you think what is happening with ICE in the US can't happen here I have a bridge to sell you. 1/

There is money for "education" if and only if that money is being directly funneled to corporations. Anything involving actual learning, however, well there's no magic money tree

The UK version of “Project 2025” by the Reform party includes a British ICE, a concentration camp for 24,000 people, mass surveillance and withdrawing from refugee, anti-torture and anti-trafficking conventions.

It’s on their website. That’s how comfortable fascists are in the UK today.

Yeah the thing that immediately pissed me off about this is how IT basics are taught in libraries and are essential to modern living and have huge - like years long - queues but where’s the funding for that?
if they can offer free AI training they could offer free media literacy training too. i know which of those would do more for the public good

The government’s suggestion that rolling out 20 minute courses on writing “AI“ prompts, sponsored by Google, Microsoft and Amazon, is somehow comparable to the founding of the Open University (the Wilson government‘s, & Jennie Lee’s, proudest achievement), is an insult to our human intelligence.

New challenge for locals is to feed increasingly absurd ways to pronounce 'Levenshulme' to all the first-time visiting journalists and political campaigners.

After announcing it in the summer, today the UK government launched free training courses to AI upskill workers. It's free because it's funded by big-tech companies such as Amazon, Google, Microsoft and others, and not by local organisations in the UK who have been working with communities->

Even if "AI" worked the way it should (which it doesn't), I fail to see why this is a government priority. Will unemployment, the closure of High Street shops, and the understaffing and underresoucing of the NHS, be improved by your ability to summarise a three-page document?

The Free AI Training will obviously be made using AI.

It will be presented by an AI avatar of a white man in a shirt looking like he's in an animated Diareze advert, confident but a worried smile showing he might shit himself at any moment.

He's voiced by Dave from the Royal Family.

You also cant be 100 percent sure on any output that is produced.
