A better photo of the female Blackcap just now. Transferred from my camera to my phone, so not the best image quality.

I can be pretty certain of the cause of this major incident, just down the road from me.

At almost the exact point where the hole opened up, a stream, Staggs Brook flows under the embankment. It disappears over 100m on one side, and re-emerges on the other side.

The point of my thread, is not so much the Epstein scandal itself, but how the powerful and wealthy, chose to turn a deliberate blind-eye to all the sleazy and corrupt behaviour in their social circles. This includes the denial and sabotage of addressing the climate crisis.
1/2
The most important point about the Epstein scandal, is that Epstein's operation was hardly secret and hidden. Even before the first police investigation, which started in 2004, it should have been obvious to all the rich and powerful people that associated with Epstein what was going on.

I over the last 50 years or so, I have closely followed politics, particularly with regard to environmental matters, but also on all policy, because it is clearly interlinked. Since the Thatcher government, there has self-evidently been some sort of doctrine, that every party in power follows.
1/9🧵
It's something to do with neoliberal doctrine, and it is about time, we found out, exactly what has been going on.

For the last 40 years or so, every party of power, not just in the UK, but in other Western democracies, has pursued essentially the same policy.

Thanks for the heads up for potholer54's new video, which makes some excellent points. Of course, we can adapt to climate change, because we'll have no choice. I'm going to be even more forthright, humanity could adapt to food shortages, by starving.

What does "adapt to climate change" mean?

It's the latest excuse to do nothing, so this video explores it. It's good, which is to be expected because it's from "potholer54":

My real criticism of the Labour government, is its climate and nature policy, along with it punching down on the most vulnerable in society. However, to explain the stupidity and unwiseness of this policy, would take a lot of words. It's easier to sum up the incompetence, with this issue.

I can only think Starmer has been told by the right wing Tory Press, that if he deviates from the narrative they have got him peddling, that they will undermine and destroy him. What, does the stupid man, think they have been doing?

I would recommend people read this very important thread by @georgemonbiot.bsky.social. I think his point about this economic elite, is probably more important, than the prison/crime point (which itself is very important).

This economic elite, is a sort of malignancy.

2. Given that locking more people up is NOT a response to rising crime, we could ask ourselves why it has been happening.
I see it as one symptom of the rising power of the economic elite, and of its influence over successive governments. 2/8
