Once again, for the hundredth time: Alberta could solve this with a simple PST. You'd be able to balance the budget *and* save non-renewable resource royalties for the future.

But, of course, the self-appointed "fiscal conservatives" won't entertain the idea. #abpoli

A reasonable discussion about AI would come to the conclusion that this tech is damaging to humanity in virtually every way a tech can be damaging.

But I'd rather have an emotional discussion and point out that this tech is shit made by assholes, and it stole from me, personally, so fuck it.

Edmonton seems to be one big skating rink right now. SO many residential & public sidewalks are treacherous to walk, even with ice cleats. There’s not even salt or sand placed where it should be in many areas. Is this how we have to live in a winter city? #yeg #yegcc #yegwinter

Edmonton: Lower taxes!
Infill (lowers costs), 🚲 lanes (reduce expensive 🚗 dependency).

Also Edmonton: No, not like that.

Edmonton: Make this city more vibrant!
Infill brings people in to shrinking nhbds, including renters, just like vibrant cities like Montreal.

Also Edmonton: No, not like that.

There are many levels of "naked": underwear only, no clothing at all & the highest level of (human) nakedness: only wearing socks.

Then we have the glass frogs of Family Centrolenidae, who take it to the next level: visible organs.

This is part of their Cloak of Invisibility!

Within the first few posts are two names that have been popping up at city council for years, always in the service of one goal: NIMBYism. Wealthy home owners who are trying to stop others from moving into their neighbourhoods.

If it wasn't so offensive it would be sad.
🧵 We're back virtually with day 2. Starting off with speakers from the Residential Infill Working Group who say that the problem is massing, not number of units per se.

They list a bunch of concerns with massing, like shadowing, privacy, lights, heat, trees, etc.

Oh, I see.

At some point, Edmonton changed the official la classification of Shared Streets and started pretending they were Local Street Bikeways, which are considered high comfort even though shared streets absolutely are not.

This study should be retracted for garbage quality control.

The police do not police themselves. They rarely answer for their crimes, and when they do, it's usually slaps on the wrist.

They have lots of power while being held to a lower standard of behaviour than almost any other group of people in our society.

It's the perfect incubator for corruption.
