Personal stuff on here. Work stuff on Mastodon. Other stuff on other sites.
Went to a local #industrial show last night. The highlight was Fleshing Machine - an electro-industrial act in the vein of Suicide Commando, Wumpscut, etc.

Check them out!

If you are young enough that you didn’t have measles but were born before 1989, then you may have only had one measles vaccine, and not the two that are needed. There’s no known downside to an accidental third vaccination. This is why I got my MMR booster today.

The right for autistic people with intellectual disabilities (and other disabled people) to live outside of institutions was only granted by the US Supreme Court in 1999.
Perioidic reminder that the reason you didn't see autistic people with intellectual disabilities on the street five decades ago was not because they didn't exist. It's because they were sent away to institutions and their parents were told to put away pictures of them.

In my last post, I talked about what we, as consumers, must do to save our world from the shitgoblins.

Today, I'd like to start a conversation about how we, as creators, must save the world.

this is a good post and "decadence" is a good way to think about a lot of things. true decadence is, eg, thinking you could let an insurrection go unpunished and the country would just keep chugging along nbd

Trump is basically pressing all the “do not touch” buttons simultaneously: mass layoffs, increasing prices, undermining consumer and international confidence. Not sure what else he could be doing to trigger a recession, let alone longer term US decline
March saw the third-highest number of layoffs in U.S. history, and 80% of them were caused by DOGE

This was before the tariffs

It's just...unbelievable

I wrote about DOGE's planned SSA "modernization" for MSNBC.

"It’s like cooking a Thanksgiving turkey in 20 minutes by putting it in a blast furnace, or choosing to get measles instead of getting vaccinated against it: it sounds most convincing to the layperson who asks the fewest questions."
Opinion | DOGE’s new plan to overhaul the Social Security Administration is doomed to fail
Modernizing the SSA’s technical infrastructure is not a novel idea – and such modernizations have a poor track record.

This is also important. Like a lot of people, I’m no longer going to accept “put it back the way it was.” Democrats need a vision that’s as radically inclusive and expansive as Republicans’ vision is destructive and extractive.
They should also ask Democrats about their plan to rebuild and strengthen them. We’re going to need a new New Deal

WTF is a gender-conforming or non-confirming haircut?!
We reported on this a few days ago, but I want to point out this headline because this is where we are at.

A bill in Arkansas would ban gender affirming HAIRCUTS for transgender youth.

HAIRCUTS.

This is a straight up North Korea state sanctioned hairstyle proposed law for youth.
GOP bill could ban hairdressers from giving gender-nonconforming haircuts to minors - LGBTQ Nation
The bill would allow anyone to sue someone who affirms a young person's transition, and it specifically mentions hairstyles.

If one thing gives me a little bit of optimism in This Current Era, it’s that we have mounting reminders that citizens can be the mechanism that forces the FIND OUT phase upon those who dared FUCK AROUND.
Target’s stock plummeted by ~ $27.27 per share by the end of February, erasing about $12.4 billion in market value.

The drop came on Feb. 28, the designated economic blackout day, and coincided with mounting backlash over the retailer’s decision to abandon its DEI commitments.
