So I have a new pump and, although that hasn’t entirely solved the problem, I do have my heating back which is a relief.
I have a boiler engineer in my house and he is replacing the pump. Please, whichever deities happen to be about, let this solve the problem so I can have my central heating back!

Boiler update: the pump is is no more. It has ceased to be. Bereft of life, it rests in peace. It is an ex-pump.
