I wrote this song on Saturday, recorded it yesterday and released it to you today in response to the state terror being visited on the city of Minneapolis. It’s dedicated to the people of Minneapolis, our innocent immigrant neighbors and in memory of Alex Pretti and Renee Good.

In Printz v. United States, #SCOTUS held that the Constitution bars the federal government from forcing or otherwise compelling local or state governments to enforce federal law.

The liberal squish who wrote the majority opinion in that case? Justice Antonin Scalia:

We probably would not see eye to eye on a lot, but serious props to the Cato Institute for their absolute pile of great, full-throated defenses of immigration. They’ve done impressive work in this area for years now.
Immigrants in the US consumed about 24% fewer welfare and entitlement benefits per capita than native-born Americans in 2023, new Cato Institute research finds.

Leaders of the so-called “pro-life, small government” party who relentlessly warn of tyranny are standing by as masked agents roam the country and brutalize its people. The hypocrisy isn’t surprising — but it’s staggering. Remember this.

Let the picture of the little five year old boy standing facing the car and the old man being dragged out of his house with no shirt on, let those images burn into your brain. We don’t have to be this country. We don’t have to live this way.

Yeah as much as I hate Trump, the states run elections and maybe he can say no elections and some red states will say yes, but we don't really have another method to get legitimate leaders. Even Russia and Iran have "elections".

We need to talk about the lack of mental health funding in this country. With citizens and veterans. That should be mandatory spending for creating a healthy society.

A lot of you get off on poking Tom and I get it, he's a grumpy jerk. That's his thing. But he's also not wrong. These people certainly are at least fascist-adjacent, but that's not his point. What we are living through isn't pure fascism. Yet. We can still fix it, or it can get a whole lot worse.
Okay. Let me try this another way, and see if that works.

I was a boy with relatives in Greece during the time of the Colonels, a pretty scary military junta. Some would say it was fascist: Militarism, anti-communism, nostalgia, etc.

But no.

Political violence disproportionately hurts people with less power, not people with more power. Political violence will disproportionately hurt people of color and women and LGBTQ people. It’s not fair, but that’s the way it works. Celebrating political violence means at best indifference to that.
Political violence is bad. It usually begets more political violence.

Campus shootings are bad. They make everyone on campus less safe.

It's bad that what I wrote here is controversial.
