2. The Administration for Community Living helped millions of older adults, disabled people, and caregivers live with dignity and independence. MAGA dismantled it—quietly and cruelly—because their vision for America doesn’t include care. Just cruelty & control.

RFK Jr has moved to eliminate HHS’s Administration for Community Living, a subsidiary established in 2012 to support disabled and aging people.

The shutdown, part of wider cuts, will mean “more people forced into institutional settings.”

Do this now!
I’m somehow on a Heritage Foundation mailing list (😂) and they sent a survey to see what we think of DOGE.

Who wants to offer some m-fing feedback?!?

i feel like it's an open question whether or not the flu vaccine will even be available next season
On Friday night, HHS ordered CDC to take down all flu vaccine campaign materials from its website. Materials are starting to come down.
For example, a campaign explaining that flu shot can reduce flu severity from "wild to mild" is now offline. Left image is from Friday, right is now

The Indigenous People of North America have decided to go back to calling the Gulf of Mexico, “Chalchiuhtlicueyecatl”. It is what the Nahuatl People originally called it as it is the domain of the goddess Chalchiuhtlicue, who is assoc w/water bodies, including the Gulf of Mexico.

This is insightful and a must read and why I'm not paying much attention to mainstream media these days.
Having watched with growing alarm the developments of the last 24 and 36 hours in Washington, I thought I’d take a stab at how the US media would cover this story if it was happening in a foreign country. Here’s that story that should be written this weekend: www.doomsdayscenario.co/p/musk-s-jun...

Disability employment law requires "that the person with a disability must be able to perform the essential functions of the job."
People with intellectual disabilities do lots of jobs–but they don't direct air traffic
After the fatal crash over the Potomac River, the President says diversity hiring has made the skies unsafe, but that's not how disability hiring works

Dear the Media,

When something bad happens in an area under the executive branch's purview, and the White House goes "uh... a Black or gay person must've done it," you do not need to accept that. You're allowed to follow up in pursuit of the factual reason, not the bigoted excuse.

One of the major points of doing DEI (or whatever you want to call it) is a labor insight that lots of people out there could be excellent air traffic controllers or anything else etc, but racism, sexism, whatever drives them out of the workforce until you don’t have all the best people for the job.

Excellent summary! Disabled people are harmed by these freezes exponentially.
AAPD put together an explainer on the federal funding freeze. While the explainer goes into more detail, what we know can be said in one sentence: Lots of critical programs are impacted by this freeze, & within its first day, this action has already caused serious harm.
