Reflecting the efforts of so many - most importantly our study participants who gave their time to help others - I'm thrilled to share the results of our RCT evaluating the effectiveness of the #SafetyPlanningIntervention for #SuicidePrevention in the year after jail release.
RCT: Among people released from pretrial jail detention, those who received the Safety Planning Intervention with telephone follow-up experienced 42% fewer suicide events over 12 months compared with enhanced standard care. ja.ma/4oWA6vW

This article alone has 4 examples of ChatGPT encouraging young people to commit suicide, and OpenAI’s own public stats estimate over a million users discuss suicide with ChatGPT each week.

Today, Rep. Krajewski and I made it clear: Pennsylvania’s classrooms are not for sale. Our bill defends academic freedom — because no president, past or future, gets to control what our students learn.

Thank you Senator Williams and my other colleagues for your outspoken leadership!

This is so despicable.

Know that you can still provide @trevorproject.bsky.social's direct number (866-488-7386 or text to 678-678) to folks who need it.

Given that this also cuts needed funding for this work, it's a good day to donate to The Trevor Project here:

If you are wondering why recently departed senior NIH officials are not speaking out more, there is a legal 1-year cooling off period for matters related to NIH.

Their silence should not be interpreted as complicity or cowardice, but rather respect for the rule of law.

Where's the collective flip-out about threats to higher-ed? 4.7 million Americans work for higher ed institutions. Even more rely on contract work with them. It is one of the biggest sectors in the US.(1/2)

DOGE has provided lists of hundreds of grants to cut, and DOGE is now reviewing ALL NIH awards before they're released

Court documents and internal correspondence show the cost-cutting force has broad control over the world’s largest public biomedical funder.
