Reflecting the efforts of so many - most importantly our study participants who gave their time to help others - I'm thrilled to share the results of our RCT evaluating the effectiveness of the #SafetyPlanningIntervention for #SuicidePrevention in the year after jail release.
RCT: Among people released from pretrial jail detention, those who received the Safety Planning Intervention with telephone follow-up experienced 42% fewer suicide events over 12 months compared with enhanced standard care. ja.ma/4oWA6vW

Suicide prevention requires systemic change. Governments worldwide must:

- Decriminalise suicide
- Implement national suicide prevention strategies
- Fund accessible mental health care

Policy saves lives. Let’s demand action.

1: Covers I like better than the original. In no particular order.

“A horse with no name” by Michelle Branch, originally by “America.” This played on a cool Bojack episode as one of several horse-themed songs on the show (e.g., “Wild Horses”)

Things are feeling especially hard & unpredictable right now, but one thing’s for certain - it’s the eve of our annual internship orientation. Taking a moment to enjoy that same “back to school” excitement that I get each year, when we welcome & launch our next cohort of psychology residents!

And these are just the tangible costs…

“…having a loved one in prison or jail is estimated to cost families across the country nearly $350 billion each year — about four times the amount the federal government estimates it costs taxpayers annually to operate the nation's prisons and jails.”

Working in care transitions, I’ve often said we need policy solutions to improve continuity of care when a person is dc’ed from one system (eg, hospital) but gets stuck waiting for an appt in another (eg, CMHC). Enabling pharmacists to bridge an Rx during these long waits could be a game changer. 🙌
Bill would let pharmacists refill medications without prescriber
The R.I. House of Representatives has approved legislation aimed at ensuring patients can still access vital prescriptions when their prescriber is unavailable.

Taking a break from all this {waves hands all around} to say that this is a feeling of hatred that resides deep in my soul… for me, it is Bryan Adams’ “Have You Ever Really Loved a Woman.” 😳
Fuck your favourite song. Tell me your least favourite song. The one that makes you die inside the moment you hear the first 3 seconds.
