For Super Bowl Sunday, I am watching the 1978 Chevy Chase / Goldie Hawn film “Foul Play,” which I believe is something that can happen in football.

I know the whole thing’s gonna be Charlie XCX, but the whole “Wuthering Heights” soundtrack should just be the Kate Bush song, over and over, à la “Call Me” in “American Gigalo.”

Every piece of dumb cop fiction is about cops doing fascist things fascistly

Every piece of SMART cop fiction is a metaphor for writing, where the cop is a self-insert of the author and the crime is the society into which the fiction is released

I don't know what led me to Peter Gabriel's blog, but:

"I was delighted that ‘I Have the Touch‘ was chosen for the soundtrack of Marty Supreme. The song is rarely asked out for a dance and I have always loved table tennis."

In high school my art teacher told me I didn’t know how to draw because cartooning wasn’t real art.
I have wanted to be in The New Yorker Magazine since I was 19. I’m 53 and this happened yesterday:

Do you ever watch video reviews of products you already own, and just silently go, "Yeah, I got that."

Mamdani w/ the most savage long-form improv burn I’ve ever heard:
“I went to Magnet Theater for Improv Level One,” Mamdani said of that winter in 2017, when his eight-week course at the Chelsea theater ended in a student showcase. “I think I had dreams of going to the Upright Citizens Brigade.”

What’s the long German expression for when you go to see a band, expecting they’re the headliner (or headliner adjacent), and it turns out they went on first and you completely missed them?

Zohran winning is THRILLING. Bring back being able to afford NYC as a working class person. Bring back being able to be an artist without a trustfund. We lost our city to billionaires + thats not NYC. NYC is poor people, queer people, immigrants, its underdogs + weirdos + that's what makes it great.

Bob Newhart explaining the meaning of the Lil Wayne lyric, “Real G's move in silence like lasagna.”

Well…you see…eh…it’s because Gs…and, and, and…by Gs, I mean gangsters…not, I suppose…not, literal gangsters…well, you see…uh…the G in the word lasagna is…is, is…silent, you see. And so the song...”

When musicians don’t know how to end a song, they just fade out. I think other writers should do that too. Sketch comedy, screenwriting, playwrights. Have everyone talk softer and softer as they slowly sneak off stage.
Novelists can end chapters with gradually shrinking type.

#DYK? The character of Cher Horowitz in CLUELESS was written by Amy Heckerling w/o a last name. Mr Hall (aka Wallace Shawn) improvised the name in one of the classroom scenes and it stuck

We are watching CLUELESS today, directed by Amy Heckerling as part of our BREAK THE FRAME FILM FESTIVAL #BTFF
