Hey @npr.org Why is @steveinskeep.bsky.social using the made-up term “underage women” when talking about Elpstein’s victims. The only people using “underage women” are people trying to protect pedophiles by dismissing the victims as not really young. Is that what you mean to be doing?

As a composer teaching theory I'm now feeling like either a co-conspirator in the crime or a master detective teaching others my special ways...
Music is basically a detective novel where the musicians are the suspects/criminals, the listener is the detective and of course the music is the crime. The listener tries to determine what happened and what was the motivation, while the musicians try to obscure this, so they can get away with it.

NYT: but her emails
Landon Thomas Jr of the New York Times got told by Jeffrey Epstein that Trump walked into a glass door bc he was so busy staring at girls in Epstein's house and didn't print it. wild that the Times didn't consider that newsworthy.

This is vile racism that needs to be called out every time he does it.
Elon Musk, "These lovely small towns in England, Scotland and Ireland, they've been living their lives quietly. They're like hobbits"

"And so one day, 1,000 people show up in your village of 500 and start raping the kids"

"This has now happened, God knows how many times in Britain"

It's not a shock that a genre with so much sexism and misogyny would lead to working environments with sexism and misogyny, but having had furniture thrown at you as a woman director is still jarring

It's always fun playing the game, "Does it suck because my campus IT sucks, or is it AWS that is sucking?"

You rarely lose betting the campus is the problem, but this time I searched and find out that Brightspace D2L uses AWS.

So much fun on the day midterm grades are due

Need to dive in, but this should be a warning sign
South Korea pushed AI hard in schools. The national program was aborted within months, following massive pushback from students, parents and teachers, after a fortune had already been spent by both the government and education publishers

AI-powered textbooks fail to make the grade in South Korea
South Korea’s AI learning program was rolled back after just four months following a backlash from teachers, students, and parents, underlining the challenges in embedding the technology in education.

Dr. Oz, a government official, just uttered the phrase “under-babied”

I liked him so much better when he was peddling supplements with false claims, and I didn’t like him at all back then
Dr Oz: "Turns out that about 1/3 families don't have the number of babies they desire. They're under-babied. So this president committed to address that during the campaign and he's delivering on that today."

because that is all it is, a made up word to scare people

Yes, New College is incredibly inefficient but it also dropped 60(!) spots on the US News & World Report rankings. Not easy!
Everytime Chris Rufo is introduced as an impt voice in higher ed, remember that the one time he had a hand in running an institution has been a disaster.
Competence matters.
You'll be shocked to learn New College of Florida is on the brink of implosion just a couple of years after DeSantis engineered an extreme right-wing takeover

Fun fact: NCF's new overlords spend $134K per student (!!...the average at other FL publics is $10K) www.insidehighered.com/news/governa...
Spending Soars, Rankings Fall at New College of Florida
Student outcomes and rankings are slipping at the liberal arts college while spending is up. Critics believe the college is at risk of implosion, and some are calling for privatization.

At this point, any Democrat who votes to keep this government open without extracting very serious concessions — RFK’s resignation, ICE rollback, Epstein Files release, etc — will absolutely face a primary challenger who will set fundraising records.
Republicans run the White House, Congress and Supreme Court on the principle that the only role Dems can play is bailing the GOP out from facing the consequences of their own actions.

They expect Dems to clean up after them and save them from voters’ blame, and sadly some Dems want to do just that.
Actual White House quote: “go fuck yourself.”

Its not being some pearl clutching prude to ask whether this is really how most Americans want their kids to see the seat of our government behave. www.politico.com/news/2025/09...

This headline and post are misleading on purpose to fit the economist's editorial bent on the political issue.
A recent study found that children who transitioned young retained stable gender identities over time. But the fact that nearly a fifth of those in the group did not ought to give advocates of irreversible medical interventions pause
How stable are the gender identities of younger children?

As usual with this issue, Harris is calling for a compromise that already exists. Every sporting body has standards for how long athletes must be on hormones before they can compete as women.

The problem isn’t that we’re ignoring ‘reasonable concerns,’ the problem is that republicans are lying.
