Just looked out on my balcony and saw two helicopters in that direction.

I vividly remember a portion of this website ripping Dems about using healthcare for the shutdown. If your blaming Dems for a rise in your healthcare cost when the GOP wrote the bill during the summer and signed off on it, your being disingenuous.
My ACA current plan is going from $385/mo to $821/mo.

The minority party is not supposed to save you from the policies voters voted the majority party in for. Dems signed no on the bill in the summer.
I don't think the vast majority of the public feels Dems want to protect the ACA because the party hasn't shown that they want to.
I do not think this is going to be the case because the underlying reality is the Democrats want to protect the ACA and the GOP wants to destroy it and one vote on a stopgap funding CR is not going to shift that.

You weren't getting universal healthcare at any point during the Obama era or even back in 2021. The votes weren't there, maybe if Dems actually turned out to vote in federal elections but that is not the case.
You're right. And the ACA is better than nothing. But it's also horrible, and just gifted a trillion dollars to health insurance companies.
Universal healthcare is and was the stupifyingly obvious correct answer, and we deserve politicians who will make that happen.

Protecting the Obama era was the point of the shutdown. You know, the guy who gave us the ACA.
I get where you're coming from.
A lot of us think this whole system has been broken for decades. That the Obama and Clinton eras fucked us over the same, just more slowly.
I know you disagree with that. That's okay.
That's why we have to beat your constituency in primaries, to save America.

You can't give a party no control of any chamber and expect them to protect you from every bad thing Trump does. That's why 2024 was important. You get what your country voted for.
It's not either/or!
Do you really think I didn't campaign as hard as I could for Kamala?
Elected Dems are NOT fighting Trump. Notice that they haven't led any protests, or stopped any of his crimes.
I will Vote Blue No Matter Who in Nov 26, but before that are primaries. And they matter.

Please, if you're not struggling to put food on the table because of no snap or not a federal worker, you aren't the one experiencing the pain. It's easy to talk like that when your a privileged asshole.
Stop making excuses for Dem failure. The Dems absolutely could have achieved a positive result — the GOP had two and only two options, both of which are good for Dems (restored ACA funds, end of filibuster). Dems failed because they are either bad at planning or too weak to fight, or both.

It's amazing Dems can get up to fight Democrats, but not the actual Nazis last November.
Hard disagree on point 4 right now.
The next election is the Democratic primaries.
If you're planning to support your incumbent, then I'm planning to fight you like you're a Nazi.
Pick a side.

It's not leverage if you were never going to achieve your desired result, which was ACA subsidies remain intact. What the shutdown did was allow Dems to broadcast healthcare cuts the GOP passed. They are still the minority party so getting what they wanted out of this was never an option.
No one is really going to pay attention to the ACA subsidy vote because what matters is Democrats had leverage, people saw them use it, and people saw them give it away

Thinking the median voter in America comes away with an impression of something that happened on a Sunday in Fall during the same time as Sunday Night Football and that they remember it for a year is a take. We know Americans don't no where the amount of attention that we think they do.
I disagree - I think the median voter comes away with the impression that the parties are not meaningfully different

I'm really tired of guys on this app blaming Dems alongside Republicans for ACA when I can go back a read who voted yes and no on the bill in July. The GOP was not taking the ACA into consideration. That was never a likely outcome.
Yes - this is a loss because Democrats have now signed on to ACA cuts as a complicit party and once again made it a less effective issue for the mid terms
From that perspective, this would be a failure, right? Because the Dems lose the narrative that they did everything to stand in the way of ACA cuts.

How do you weirdos find some way to wrap things back to your pet issue? Seriously, what the fuck does a shutdown deal has to do with AIPAC?

I think it's funny how the many who are mad were also the ones who had criticized the Dems for running the shutdown on the idea of protecting the ACA subsidies. The ACA was always off the table. Republicans showed no sign of giving in to that demand, even if it was politically beneficial for them.
This is 1000% correct.
There were two ways this was always going to go. The GOP was going to kill the filibuster or Dems were going to get something that was worth a vote in their eyes.
I think a lot of people are forgetting those were the choices.
Get your emotions out today though🤷♂️

The best take on all of this shutdown came from @shannonrwatts.bsky.social who told me this would only end by Republicans killing the filibuster or Democrats caving. That’s it. But Schumer somehow broadcast that Republicans would cave when they never gave any indication they would.

This is the brain dead shit that has become accustomed here on bluesky. Schumer cannot put a gun to their heads and prevent them from voting yes. Dems are not beholden to one ideology like Republicans are. King is not a Democrat, Fetterman is Fetterman, and the rest are from battlegrounds, except IL
The coordinated nature of this—none are facing voters in 2026—means that either Schumer approved it or failed in his job as Senate Majority Leader to stop it.
Dems voting "no" get zero credit until they demand a change in leadership. Schumer out as Leader, Durbin out as Whip.

Has anyone among the blame-the-Dems crowd given an idea of what winning the shutdown looks like to them?
Like just keep the govt closed until the ‘26 midterms?
Some magic moment where the gop gives in?
Like WTF are people expecting here?

What's Chuck supposed to do? Beat them? Kill them? Listen to yourself! And don't try and portray this as a professionalism, networking, or charm issue, because he's got all that in spades. That's why he's been so successful for so long. Stop leaning into your ignorance!

The healthcare was already a done deal. GOP was not letting that be dropped, so cut it with blaming Dems for the increase in healthcare cost. If anything this is halftime and the Dems are finding a way to get money to federal workers for the holidays before it starts again in late January.
Democrats have been tasked a responsibility of continuously having to prevent as much harm to people from GOP's policies, with a no control of either chamber or the White House. On one hand federal families are suffering with no pay, and on the other hand people's healthcare will be higher.

Anyone saying Dems are helping throw away people's healthcare is being disingenuous. You know like I know, Republicans were never extending the ACA, and only Republicans passed the bill in July. Just means people will be pissed in 2026 because of their healthcare premiums.

This is my feeling on this. Guys on here want Dems to act like Republicans, but Dems are not psychopaths. It's the whole reason I vote and support Democrats in the first place, knowing the alternative.
That tactical weakness is not a bad thing, IMO. It’s because Dems give a shit about people suffering, which in the shutdown they are. Should they keep it up regardless? I don’t know, maybe? What does it show signs of accomplishing if they do? In how long?
