About six months ago, my partner got the best gift of his life - our friend's old hearing aids. It cost under $100 to get them reset and refitted at the local hearing clinic. If you have upgraded, you can do no better thing than donate your old aids to a friend or a clinic.

On my regular road commute between Dunedin and North Canterbury, I used to stop over in Palmerston for a coffee, and if I was lucky enough to get there in time, a lamington. One day, ownership had changed, and my enquiry was met with: "The lamington is dead".

This is a great example of how genAI steals from us all on multiple levels. It's stolen a promotional spot for real books and authors, it's stolen a job from an actual journalist who could have compiled this, it's stolen an opportunity for parents to be recommended good NZ books for their kids

Weird experience of the day video calling with my cousin in England. We were like brother and sister very early in our lives and have only ever met once, briefly, since, but we can talk for hours on end. Without the internet none of this would be possible.

It's incredible to me that we had people calling for public executions of politicians during Covid, but we now have people dying in hospital corridors and carparks because of a government-engineered health system collapse and apparently none of those same people are bothered by it.
