Browsing museums, galleries, libraries, bookstores have been some of the best hours of my life, but yes, its not instant gratification and its designed to take time
The death of browsing is part of the reason art is the way it is now. Our opinions are largely fed to us by algorithms. Spending a spare 15 minutes wandering around a bookstore or comic shop or video rental place was how you found stuff you wouldn't ordinarily pick up and thereby expanded your taste
Bookselling is like the most "people go to the store and buy what looks cool to them without a particular agenda" type business left, and your purchases have a huge influence on what is ordered, what is displayed, and what is recommended.

I frequently say this, but it’s:

there is joy in resistance

not just, joy is resistance.
There are some people on this site who don’t think anyone should be experiencing joy right now due to Trump facism.

Baby, joy is resistance. If we don’t feel moments of joy then we become completely demoralized, and then we’re incapable of fighting. Which is what they want.

A key step in fighting the Trump admin's attacks on higher education specifically and democracy more broadly is to say as clearly as we can that we share values that are meaningful and that we will not stand by while our institutions are destroyed.

🧵 I don't have high hopes that universities will be leading the resistance

I'm collecting data on university use of violence against students. It's been eye-opening and disappointing to see "liberal" institutions in major cities, in solidly blue states, use force against peaceful protestors
