Maybe we should honor the women who were real astronauts.

From left to right are Shannon W. Lucid, Margaret Rhea Seddon, Kathryn D. Sullivan, Judith A. Resnik, Anna L. Fisher, and Sally K. Ride. NASA selected all six women as their first female astronaut candidates in January 1978.

In response to the Trump administration, my university @univ-amu.fr is setting up a new program dedicated to welcoming American scientists wishing to pursue their work in France.
There are several M$ in the budget.

Social diversification & cultural liberalization are ongoing; political backlash is a sign of the change, not its end. And it is hard to fight social change with policy, especially when generational.
New polling from Gallup out today:

9.3% of Americans identify as LGBTQ, up from 7.6% last year and 3.7% a decade ago.

23% of Gen Z Americans say they are LGBTQ. 14% of millennials identify as LGBTQ.

56% of LGBTQ Americans are bisexual, 21% gay, 15% lesbian and 14% trans.

I'm not teaching my grad course 'Civil Resistance: How It Works' this semester. But here is an abridged version of the course schedule, readings, and films I used the last time I taught it (in 2022). Just in case it's useful. drive.google.com/file/d/14RRJ...

All NIH study sections canceled indefinitely. This will halt science and devastate research budgets in universities.

2024 was rough all around, but really good for reading for me. I finally figured out how to fit reading into my routines again post-baby, and I read books that I really loved. Highlights include the Nursery, Demon Copperhead, Debt, All Fours, Pachinko, and the Fraud.

Have any pregnant people figured out how to reliably convince themselves to cook a vegetable? I can eat them if made for me, I can look at them and think "wow that would be yummy", but then I just let them rot away in the fridge.
