I don’t really do much Egyptology stuff these days, but it’s good to see more people (and institutions!) making their way over here. It would be nice if more of Egyptology Tw*tter made the great migration …

I've seen fossils in some remarkable places, but this takes the prize: the benthic foram Nummulites in the base of the Great Pyramid of Giza. These massive blocks were quarried from the Eocene Mokkatam Formation when a relictual population of woolly mammoths still lived on Wrangel Island.

Camps, where detainees can be concentrated.
BIG news from @bloomberg.com, which confirms that ICE has gone ahead and *purchased* multiple commercial warehouses with the aim of converting them into mass detention camps.

This is likely to be the big detention story of 2026 — literal warehousing of people.

The UK version of “Project 2025” by the Reform party includes a British ICE, a concentration camp for 24,000 people, mass surveillance and withdrawing from refugee, anti-torture and anti-trafficking conventions.

It’s on their website. That’s how comfortable fascists are in the UK today.

Younger generations “have fallen out of love with Harry Potter because they have fallen out of love with the worldview the series represents,” writes Louise Perry. “Which is to say that young people have fallen out of love with liberalism.”

Bovino is just the patsy - a noxious and odious fall guy. Stephen Miller is the architect and prime mover of the whole thing. Everything they do is at his direction - often after his threats. As long as he runs policy in the WH, nothing will change no matter how many Bovinos come and go.

I think at this point the UK has accepted Paddington as the Death Bear, collector of souls. So, I think as a nation we should start smearing marmalade on the eyes of the dead and whisper “fare for the crossing”. It’ll feel weird now but, in three of four generations, no one will question it.

The author rightly draws parallels between what’s happening in Minneapolis and the Jan25th Egyptian revolution in terms of the organic nature of leaderless movements.

I curated Twitter content during the Arab Spring and was close with many participants. Tahrir Square has come to mind often lately.

The altnps account is the 13th most followed account on Bluesky and has more followers than every single news outlet other than the NYT, NPR and Meidas Touch on here. They actively spread misinformation and exploit gullible old people for cash. Accounts this unethical do not deserve to exist.
Completely insane. AltNPS claimed to know the name of Alex Pretti's killer, refused to say it because "the truth always comes out," and then just deleted the post.

A man was executed on the street in my hometown, and AltNPS is using that as an excuse to vaguepost for attention.

I've been surprised to discover a few people planning US visits for either work or pleasure who are definitely aware of what's going on, but have adopted the 'it'll be fine' attitude

Which translates to 'I don't think it will affect me' 🤨
As an independent practitioner/someone without institutional affiliation, I've decided this isn't a good time for me to visit the US for work. I shared this with others attending a tech-adjacent conference/event and am surprised to have 2 ppl privately contact me to ask what I think the risks are
