I urge everyone who is understandably disturbed by the petition news to consider how very unlikely it is for the Court to even take this up, much less reverse Obergefell. Unlike abortion, marriage opponents don’t have the same social movement that anti-abortion forces did, which was core to the GOP.

Obergefell v. Hodges made me believe in the whole "arc of history bends towards justice." In the 90s, I didn't think gay marriage would be legalized in my lifetime because homophobia was so deeply ingrained. We would have never gotten here without the decision and now it may be overturned.

You can't stand with trans people and take a gig with Rowling. It is impossible. You can make donations, you can issue statements of support, but at the end of the day you are choosing to work with the single most prominent transphobe who uses her money and platform to harm us.
I hear you, and I understand why this is painful for many. I want to be clear that I stand with trans people, and I support trans rights - fully and without hesitation. "When I accepted this role, I did so as someone who has always loved the stories and what they meant to so many - especially those who found comfort and identity in that world," she wrote. "I now understand more clearly how deeply omplicated and hurtful this association can feel, and I take that seriously.
