The thing about Mamdani is that he’s a talented politician but not otherworldly or one in a billion, he’s just a competent guy with popular ideas who ran against an entitled piece of shit and to me it’s a lot more optimistic to imagine 1000 campaigns like his than to view him as a unique phenomenon

If you were in a military battle and suddenly some of the officers dumped your whole battalion's supply of ammunition in the lake, you would not only be furious but also lose your ability to trust them as leaders. You would expect them to be court martialed, you wouldn't keep following their orders.
The sooner we get past internal recriminations and back to fighting united, the better off we all are — the likelier our victory next November.

What Was the Point of the Shutdown?
Democrats asked voters to weather short term pain from the shutdown to get long term gains in extending the ACA health insurance subsidies. Then they threw it all away.
So, what was the point of all ...

If the logic a system uses to automate any kind of action or decision has less than 99% accuracy, it is still in beta. It is not ready for production.
If it does not provide a manual override for decisions it made in error, it is still in *alpha*. It is not ready for production.
No exceptions.

Because, you see, if they have the vote and lose it, the Dems can say "we tried but the mean nasty bad GOP wouldn't let us! whoopsie uh-oh! give us campaign money pwease!"

Angus King: "This initial strategy didn't work. And now we have one. We're gonna have a guaranteed vote on the ACA, and it may not succeed. I grant that. But a reasonable chance -- 10, 20, 30% -- is a lot better than 0% which is where we were."

At this point, I'm not certain any incumbent Democrat Senator should be re-elected.
The model of holding individual senators responsible is broken here. The retirees clearly agreed to take the fall. Which is why the nos should get no credit for voting no unless they move to oust Schumer

Please put the Working Families Party in your mouth. They did wonders with Mamdani’s campaign. We saw how quickly his rise to collective awareness was in less than six months.
We can do that too, people. Everywhere. We hold the power. Screw Establishment Dems. Their time is over. It’s our turn now.

I'm sure he won't, but I've still sent my message to Fetterman instructing him to resign. Please do the same if you live in PA, and likewise for Schumer and any other Dem senator you see pretending tonight's choice was acceptable.

Someone tell Chuck Schumer that being remembered as the worst Dem Senate Minority Leader in US history IS worse than not being remembered, actually.
The centrists in the Senate Democratic caucus saw that the country was rallying to the party in the 2025 elections and resolved that they would do anything they could to kill that momentum.

We absolutely need mandatory education on participating in elections and learning about candidates. Trump coming into office with a 62% approval rate on economic policy is a scathing rebuke of how we prepare one another to participate in democracy.
Ipsos finds Trump’s approval rating is decreasing almost entirely because of anti-incumbent economic anxiety. Approval rating among people who say the economy is the # 1 issue is -24pts since Jan. It’s stable for people who index on all other issues www.ipsos.com/en-us/lesson...

Moments of joy are absolutely essential to resistance and survival.
Joy helps remind us what's worth fighting for, and restores our reserve of energy for taking up the fight.
And it's okay if some specific thing like college football doesn't bring *you* joy. Just let the other folks enjoy it.

I saw someone on my timeline shaming someone else for posting about college football in a time like this.
Folks, if we're going to survive a time like this, we're going to need to avoid burning out from an attitude of 24/7 vigilance and constant outrage.
Let people find joy where they can, please.

I think this is part of why the Dems were so against Mamdani winning.
It's been obvious to those of us who pay close attention that the Dems have been center-right for a long while now.
But Mamdani's rise makes that apparent to more and more people. He's going to draw more people back left.

This perfectly encapsulates how I feel living in the US. The republican party is an insane death cult, the democratic party is 3 corporations in a trench coat, and the "socialists" are just the completely normal left-wing capitalists you'd find in any of 2 dozen European nations.
Europeans recognize Zohran Mamdani’s supposedly radical policies as ‘normal’
Critics of New York City’s mayor-elect have said his pledges of free bus service and universal childcare are unrealistic, but in Europe it’s a given

I don't know of many public figures these days who I admire for their faith, and even fewer public *political* figures.
James Talarico is on that short list, though. He clearly takes the words of Jesus seriously.
