Ok - will bring up one specific I love and, this is something of a spoiler. Ok? Spoiler here.

In the last act this movie had a choice: embrace the ethics of Seargent Farrell, or embrace the ethics of Major West. Most movie makers would have chosen the Major. Danny Boyle chose the Seargent.
Showed the kid 28 Days Later today and it was even better than the last time I watched it. 5 star movie. I love it so much. I could probably do 10,000 word on all the ways it is great and interesting. Might be a top 3 all time horror movie for me? Hell, it might be the best. Its in the conversation.
Very much enjoyed Wonder Man.

My favorite artifact in the "you don't need AI to do art" discourse is, of course, screenwriter Dan O'Bannon's sketch of the facehugger to explain it to Giger.

How much people everywhere are basically the same. Human experiences are universal and we have soooo much more in common than we have in difference

The idea that an event that highlights a parade of athletes waving their country’s flag & where one of the rewards for winning is to play the winner’s country’s national anthem has rules against political symbolism is so ludicrous it would be funny if it weren’t so clear what the rule is really for.
I cannot sufficiently underline how despicable it is that the IOC has required Haitian Olympic athletes to remove an image representing the leader of the Haitian Revolution (against SLAVERY) from their uniforms.

STET is a story that should have been mandatory reading in high schools, colleges, and universities since the day it was published. Also, just as a piece of art, a piece of short SF on the digital page, it was always a marvel.

Halfway through Wonder Man and really enjoying it so far. I mean, you tell me I get more Ben Kingsley and I'll watch just about anything, but especially Ben Kingsley as Trevor Slatterly. Does Kingsley, who has been Ghandi, Don Logan, and Trevor Slatterly simply have the greatest range of any actor?

So, Jack O’Connell is a pretty damn fantastic actor eh? Just give him all the villains with layers of nuance underneath their messed up villainy and need for tonal shifts that change tempo and catch you off guard like an elite point guard.

Got SINNERS on my mind and you know, for all the well deserved praise *that one particular* scene gets as a piece of only-possible-in-a-movie magic, I wonder if enough credit is given to what a truly stunning piece of music “I Lied To You” is all on it’s on as music. Just an amazing piece by itself.

I will say this again and again and again: capitalism cannot be king in a world where white people had to be forced by law to accept dollars from Black hands, and that is the world we live in.
This is why people who insist that capitalism/profit motive will ultimately trump racism are unfortunately and demonstrably incorrect

We’ve had endless examples of how much money there is to be made, and yet they consistently do this
I still can't believe Sony sold K-Pop Demon Hunters to Netflix thinking it would be a flop, but are betting that basketball movie with a goat is going to be a huge hit in cinemas.

Oh great, Toronto Star publishing TERF bullshit now and I see they've gotten around to tossing in stuff to be explicit that they don't just hate trans athletes but any athlete who isn't "women enough" based on their chromosomes. Cause why not just make the hate even more hateful eh?

So I see this article saying there are no obvious threads connecting the traitorous Democrats who want to give in to the Republicans and then, after a bunch of descriptions of them it says “None are up for reelection in 2026”. Uh, that would be the obvious connecting thread?!? Obviously?!?

Actually, anyone know any LGBTQIA+ makers of flag pins or something like that, in Canada, maybe an etsy shop or something? Cause seriously, I shouldn’t have to be exhausted by people’s bigotry, they should be afraid to speak their bullshit around me.
I’d desperately love to be able to talk to people for work reasons that does not turn out to just drop transphobic bullshit into conversation. I’m starting to think that I need just wear a collection of pride flag pins whenever I am in public or something so people stop assuming I’m like them.
