only silver lining of the last few months: the anger & angst pushed me to do stand-up. I've been doing improv for the last two years, but no standup -- until last friday when I did my first set in more than 20 years.

fraud….”

“Well, that might be the one retribution,” Wiles replied.

Interviews this candid would get any other chief of staff fired. If Wiles survives this, it's another sign that Trump has absolutely zero control over his White House.
I don’t even know what to make of this level self-delusion, cognitive dissonance and moral cowardice

Under Trump:
- The economy has slowed, heading towards recession now
- Inflation is rising, most things cost more
- His cutting of energy subsidies is driving up utility prices
- He's taken 100s of billions from health care/food assistance in a war on working people
- He's making measles great again
A few points here:
- Over 300,000 jobs on average were created each month of Biden Presidency
- In the last 3 months of his Presidency the average was 203,000
- Only 64,000 jobs were created last month, and the unemployment rate has risen from 4 to 4.6 under Trump

This Trump thing ain't working.
Are we in a recession?

Perhaps. Maybe. Hard to tell.

The Sahm Rule focuses on the 3-month average unemployment rate, and asking if it's risen half a point above its year-long low.

The low was 4.0% in January.

The latest (average of Sept & Nov, with Oct missing): 4.5%.

That's +0.5%.

Much as I will always love "Take On Me," ever iconic for a reason, this followup single 1) should have been bigger over than it was, even as this helped fully cement their imperial phase elsewhere 2) was bought by me at the time on 12" and said 12" mix is still a total fucking banger. Happy 40th.

In a day filled with ugliness, I will share this joke my six year-old told me:

Knock knock.
Who’s there?
Europe.
Europe who?
No, *yer* a poo.

Over six years ago, I published an 11,000 word article in The Atlantic (gift link below) explaining how Donald Trump was, beyond any question, mentally ill and unfit to hold any office of public trust.

He has proven these points virtually every day since.

NEW — Trump has signed an executive order "designating illicit fentanyl and its core precursor chemical as weapons of mass destruction (WMD)." www.whitehouse.gov/presidential...

As a reminder, The Handbasket had the scoop that this was coming back in MARCH:
Trump to declare 'illicit' fentanyl 'Weapon of Mass Destruction,' per draft EO

Two babies were born in New York within a year of each other, soon after WWII.

One, Rob Reiner, lived a life of humanity and achievement. He brought us delight and joy. His memory will be a blessing.

The other, Donald Trump, will be remembered as an embarrassment to our nation.

The anti-Semitic mass shooting in Australia will cause a national conversation and policy change. We know this because the 1996 Port Arthur massacre led to significant restrictions on guns.
The shooting at Brown will do nothing. We know this because it occurred on the anniversary of Sandy Hook.

This is getting lost: For weeks Trump officials had the option to remove Abrego Garcia to Costa Rica, but refused to do so. Instead they kept trying to send him somewhere more dangerous. Costa Rica wasn't cruel and dehumanizing enough.

This is deeply sick conduct.
