Tldr librarians think we’re cool ✨ 🥈 🥰 📚
It's been just over a year since this enthusiastically crowd-funded anthology was released by the coolest SFF writers I know. Our contributors have won accolades and the book itself has won an IAP award! Check out it's hot, new cover + pick it up this weekend for $5!

Any other Canadians following me: civic duty time! Tell our government that letting credit card companies dictate what we spend money on is nonsense!
The official Canadian Petition to reign in payment processor censorship has stalled out just under 10k signatures.

This is a reminder for Canadians, this is an OFFICIAL petition that will be responded to. Show your support in protecting our free speech!

Man. Sometimes you read some shit and you just have to sit there for a minute boggling at how unhinged racists are. What the fuck. What is wrong with you people*?

*They're racist. That's what's wrong. I'm putting my head down on my desk and never picking it up again. How did this get published.

I do queer readings of ancient lit, and I think one of the most important insights there is that the literature itself doesn’t need to be supportive of queerness to support a queer reading. The queerphobia helps the reading, actually. But that doesn’t mean it can’t be useful to queer studies today.

People are melting down at a Tribune article about CHSD 230 considering adding Arabic to its language learning electives. I wasted time in the comments, which I normally avoid doing since it's useless and awful, but it led to possibly the funniest thing anybody's ever said to me about France.

There's a deep cut comment here about the palantiri having been invented by Feanor, notorious Guy Who Fucked Stuff Up For Everyone And Then Died Before He Saw Any Consequences, but I'm not going to get into it. I refuse to believe Thiel has read the Silmarillion.
I can't get past Peter Thiel naming his company Palantir aka the magical objects in LOTR used by an evil control obsessed entity for weird authoritarian surveillance state reasons

It's like an 80s movie villain who runs a company called SwastikaCorp, like its TOO on the nose

I would read an academic murder book in which the murder was solved by reading the syllabus
I love this idea and also want a list of academic murder books. Please reply with recs
Hear me out: a dark academia murder book that opens at a department beginning-of-the-year celebration on a boat (I know a department that does this) and a professor goes overboard. The intrepid department chair must figure out who did it. Everyone is a suspect, including the chair herself.

refusing to accept this isn’t just about “purity” or whatever, it’s about effective politics. someone who thinks it’s practical to cave on trans rights misunderstands how politics works, they don’t recognize that public opinion is forged by perseverance
Gavin Newsom suggesting that 25 years of age is too young to transition and agreeing to right-wing entryism of concern trolling about trans people in sports. This is your opposition leader?

I will never vote for Gavin Newsom anyone who thinks trans people are actual humans will follow suit.
